Rumours - 15th M5 YY 96

Dolf Dragonheart and his merry men have not been heard from since they set out for the Mouths of Madness two weeks ago, it's widely expected that they've met some doom. Meanwhile a group of adventurers called Quarfein and the Hellfire Trio have returned from the Dark Chateau, Zagyg's manse near Castle Zagyg, and relayed that contrary to earlier reports it remains swarming with goblins and other foul creatures.

Sir Alec of Gaxhill has put out a call for adventurers to deal with the wandering bands of brigands, orcs, gnolls and other raiders who menace his scattered demesne, north of Yggsburgh. The major bandit chief Red Bill Farmer has been recruiting disaffected peasants from Sir Alec's manors to join his outlaw gang, which swells in numbers daily.

A hideous 'Swamp Ghoul' from the Grey Pools Mire has been attacking lone travellers and small groups on the road to Hawfair Green, even in daylight.  The Sheriff of Yggsburgh has posted a 300gp reward for its head.

The innkeeper of Hawfair Green, Stanley 'Stout' Shephard, has been cured of lycanthropy through the efforts of the Great Church and the generous contributions of Sir Ulrich Hawkes.  He has returned to his family.

Miss Candice Wright's Grand Soiree is much anticipated by the aristocracy of Yggsburgh, though some of the most respectable matrons disdain the mixed bathing of her 'pool parties' as louche and improper.  Certainly Sir Ulrich Hawkes and his daughter Alicia seem to have no problem with that, though.  The Markles will be attending; Candice Wright is a friend of Victoria Markle.

A group of merchants recently hired a local scout, Vansley Adams, to investigate the apparent disappearance of the Lonely Valley's Green Friends gnome clan. Vansley has not returned, and fearing he has met some dark fate the merchants are now offering 100gp to anyone who will make contact with the Green Friends or find out what has happened to them.

The Albert Rasch Haberdashery has reopened for business, old Mr Rasch and his sons having been found innocent of any wrongdoing in connection with the recent kidnapping of Victoria Markle.  The Haberdashery is doing a roaring trade in fine evening gowns and quality jewelry, as the ladies of Yggsburgh compete to outdo each other in preparation for Miss Wright's upcoming Grand Soiree.

As well as the recent kidnappings and rescues of Miss Victoria Markle and Miss Sylvia Caldwell and death or capture of three kidnappers, the Sheriff of Yggsburgh is investigating three other disappearances of respectable Yggsburgh women dating back to the start of the year: Miss Jane Goodarm, Mrs Virginia Price, and Miss Cynthia Banks. Slavers are again suspected. A reward of 100gp is offered for the safe return of each of these women, and likewise 100gp for the capture of any slaver still at large. However it's widely believed that the unfortunate women are unlikely to still be in Yggsburgh.

Lord Uvoll Darktarn: According to rumour, Lord Darktarn is a powerful sorceror. Once when a large tribe of orcs menaced Dradvil, Darktarn rained great fiery balls down upon them, killed many dozens, and sent the survivors fleeing back into the forest.

  1. I'll ask Gulza about the fates of Miss Jane Goodarm, Mrs Virginia Price, and Miss Cynthia Banks.

  2. Morning of 16th/M5, Morganna hears about the three missing women from Duvader (who's been hanging around in bars practicing his Thief skills) :) and quizzes Gulaza. Assuming you have the sense to do this out of earshot of any of your comrades, Gulaza replies as follows:

    Gulaza:
"Yes, those three were all taken by us. The first two sluts from the Haberdashers, the third from the Gardens, by the tunnels. Once they were broken in, they were sent on to Dradvil in one load, concealed in a merchant's wagon. Our merchant contact is Rory Alpin. He will be back in Yggsburgh in a week or so, we were readying a new load for him."
