Green Dragon Inn prices
A small, clean private room for one person is 2gp/week (40 silver). This includes a basic ration of breakfast porridge, vegetable stew with a little bit of pig or mutton fat for lunch and supper, and a pint of small beer (weak beer typically below 1% alcohol) with each meal.
Normal subsistence suitable for a penny-counting adventurer or mercenary with some decent ale (3%+ alcohol), meat, bread & cheese adds around 4 sp/day, a couple of silver for clothes repair etc over the week makes 30sp (1.5gp) per week.
Thus, standard inn subsistence is 3.5gp/week; 15 gp per month.

Rumours (posted M4 96 YY)
Many rumours of adventure swirl around the tap room.
1. The Burning Hand adventuring company led by the Paladin Sir Dolf Dragonheart recently returned from the environs of Castle Zagyg with much wealth, having cleared out Zagyg's former manse, the 'Dark Chateau', of goblins and other monsters. They then assailed the western gate-house of the Castle, but were driven back by the cursed fog which still cloaks the castle's upper works. Many cave entrances on the lower slopes of the castle's bluff are open to exploration, and the Burning Hand plans to investigate these after they have rested and trained.
2. The Green Friends Gnome Clan has long dwelled in the Lonely Valley, north-east of Yggsburgh, but they have not been heard from for a year or more. With their traders no longer bringing supplies of their rare herbs, and rocks - magnetite (lodestone) and pyrite to town, stocks in town are running low. A group of merchants are discussing organising an expedition to Lonely Valley to find out what, if anything, has happened to the gnomes, and acquire new supplies.
3. Black Dougal and his adventuring company departed Yggsburgh two weeks ago, planning to explore the sinister River King's Tomb on Mound Island in Bigfish Lake. They have not returned, and it's not expected they will, either. The previous expedition to the River King's Tomb last year involved fifty men - three returned to Yggsburgh, discovered floating downriver in a rowboat. All died within a few days of their rescue.

The City Gaol has lists of Yggsburgh's Most Wanted, Lord Ollie and co have just been crossed off the lists. Bounties are dead/alive, alive being worth twice as much. Noted outlaws on the list (#1-#5):
#1 is Gold Hal the River Pirate (1500/2000 as of YY 97), believed to have teamed up with the notorious #3 Bloody Rosie (300/600) as his first mat (Rosie captured M9 96 YY). Hal captains a fast schooner on the broad Nemo River. Wanted for piracy, theft and murder. Hal's most outrageous exploit was the raiding last year of the pleasure barge of the fair Lady Octavia deRedfort, sister of the Baron Lyle Redfort, and the carrying off of that damsel.
#2 is Red Bill Farmer (400/800), leader of a large band of brigands active on the northern Menhir Hills Road, in the Little Hillwood region not far from Castle Zagyg. His band includes a brigand mage, #5 Jocho (200/400). The independent knight Sir Alec of Gaxhill is a foe of Red Bill, and would likely also pay for his head.
#4 is Dirty George (200/400), a brigand leader believed active in the Deerwood, his gang known to accost travellers on the southern Menhir Hills road.
_______
Former #5* is Black Brad (200/400), another brigand of the Deerwood, with a taste for kidnapping. His band includes a half-orc. (RIP 5/4/96)
*Replacing the deceased #5 Lord Ollie (RIP 2/4/96).

Duvader:>>For Duvader, going on a expedition to rescue a lost Gnome Clan is a natural choice. I therefore vote following up rumour 2 and learn who much money those merchants would be willing to spent for their expedition.<<
ReplyDeleteDuvader the Gnome approaches the three merchants discussing an expedition to Lonely Valley.
"Ho there, little fellow!" says one, affably. "Hap is my name. Would you be one of the Green Friends, returned at last?"
Duvader establishes that he is not a Green Friend, but is interested in the expedition the traders are discussing. The men introduce themselves as Bolgo Smithers, Hap Wainwright, and William Cruickshank.
Hap:
"No tellin' what the goings-on up there might be. I say the best thing is to send scouts up there to check things out and report back. Then if we re-establish contact with the Green Friends we can take the mules up there..."
William:
"I don't know, Hap. Once the scouts return, if word gets out, others will do the same, and we'll lose the business advantage. I say we hire trusty guards and head up there ourselves."
Bolgo:
"You're awful bold, William! I say we send the scouts first, sworn to secrecy, of course."
William nods, and turns to Duvader:
"We would pay well for a report of why the Green Friends are no longer heard from. We reckon their burrow lies at the north end of Lonely Valley. Safest route is probably via Garham, ten leagues distant, then west over the Greenridge. Say fifty gold for a sound report on what's befallen them?"
Flynn's first task is to find a healer to restore him. He hears the rumours in the Inn but will favour catching outlaws to aiding Gnomes.
ReplyDeleteGM: PCs will recover 1 hp each for overnight rest at the inn, and in the morning Aole & Corak should be able to heal you.

ReplyDeleteCorak would prefer to bring outlaws to justice.
ReplyDeleteBefore healing anyone in the party Corak will visit the Bravo he promised to heal and use one of his CLW spells on him - he will also try and discover why the Bravo's took such a dislike to Opa
We could combine hunting Red Bill Farmer with looking for the gnomes. If we travel the road to Graham, through the Greenridge, we would pass their burrow on the way to Castle Xagyg, where Red Bill is said to be hiding.
