Calendar
Yggsburgh uses the Yggs Year, dating from the independence of Yggsburgh in 1 YY.
Sages and scholars of history in the Realm often use the ancient Sharan Calendar of the long-dead Sharan Empire, which reckons dates in A.U.C. - Ab Urbe Condita, from the founding of the city of Shar. YY 96 = 2712 A.U.C. AUC is also still used by the city of New Shar, north-west of the Nerian Holy Lands, which maintains many ancient Sharan customs, including the Sharan Church which differs in several important respects from the Great Church of the Realm.
A partial A.U.C. chronology is given here: http://www.meetup.com/London-DnD/messages/boards/thread/5301487
Neria uses an A.D. - Anno Domini - Year of Our Lord - system dating from the Birth of the Son. YY 96=2712 AUC=AD 2012.

Aren't you going to use the calendar stuff from the East Mark Gazetteer? Where's M13, Yearend Month?
ReplyDeleteI'm working on something like this, only for the lunar cycles (% visible, time of day, etc) and the zodiac constellations. Northern & Southern Hemispheres!
I'm modeling Urth's heavens similar to Earth's.
I tried the EMG system, but 13 months did not work for me, I need 12! There's a reason the Babylonians used base-12, it breaks down a lot better into seasons etc.
ReplyDelete13 months definitely break the symetry of the calendar layout.
ReplyDeleteEven Gygax's calendar from Greyhawk looked nicer, 28 day months interrupted every quarter with a 7 day festival.
