Smon: OOC you can take it that all my prep beyond what is on the websites is minimal, I have various ideas but with a text-chat game I have no trouble statting most stuff only when you meet it, or right before. I have a good idea of NPC demographics etc and it's all pretty plug & play

Smon: Obviously I do have what's in the Yggsburgh book, but NPC levels etc are adapted to my demographics. Almost everybody is 1st-8th level so with your PCs 3rd-4th, in theory you'd have a chance vs almost anyone.

Smon: GM: The funereal bells toll throughout Castle Kallent. The Kallent and their vassal barons - Grane, Aldrun, and many landed knights - pack the chapel to pay their respects to Earl Byron.
Smon: Sweetrede is with Cassandra Starling near the back, the front row being for family only.

Smon: Garrick as family now is on the front bench, with Tabitha, while Varuna has Morgana sit with her in the second row with the Vassal Barons.

Smon: The service goes on a long time, though there are few left of Byron's generation. Earl George gives a long speech.
Smon: There is a final prayer. Fr Thadeus: "In sure and certain knowledge of the resurrection of the body upon the Last Day, we consign our brother Byron's soul into the hands of his Maker."

Smon: The service concludes and the assembly moves out of the crowded chapel - immediate family inc Garrick go with Thadeus to the family crypt beneath the castle, where Byron is interred with his ancestors, followed by a funeral dinner in the Great Hall.
Smon: As Garrick is going up with Tabitha to the dinner, Earl George pulls him aside. "A word, Garrick?"

Smon: George ushers him into a side chamber - Sir Ulrich is there.
Smon: George: "Um... You had a word with my sister Dame Gertrude, yes?"

Smon: George nods. "Yes, indeed! We do have a few people in Dunfalcon - I hear Prince Luke is looking to make a name for himself with a conquest, and Herdley is the obvious target. You think we should ally with him?"
Smon: "Won't he come for us next? And if he's married to Maria, he has a claim to our lands..."
Goonergeezer: g: i think we should do everything we can in protecting our lands, if that involves a marrage between our families then so be it

genghisdon: (she might be less pleased to know that's what I think of humans, being an elf)

Smon: "We are the greatest of the River Lords - Herdley, Kallent, Redfort and Easmoor... our land is rich, lush. We are much coveted, by Dunfalcon and by..." she looks around the Kallent garden.
genghisdon: "though I am not amused by the games of thrones humans play, I know enough to suggest that making strong alliances would be key for your people then"
genghisdon: "and yes, these Kallents & others are equalled as infected by powerlust"
genghisdon: "but that never will drive me"
Smon: Varuna nods. "Indeed... I have great admiration for your kind. We of Herdley have long stood against the plans of the Egarne to take all the lands of the Nemo for themselves. But we receive no aid..."
genghisdon: (equally..damn i suck at typing)
genghisdon: (nemo are elves?)
genghisdon: "well, I've offered you aid this day"
Smon: She sighs sadly. "For these past years, things have been quiet. King Yrag is a drunken buffoon. But his son... the Crown Prince makes no secret of his ambitions." (Nemo is the big river)
Smon: Varuna looks at Morgana appraisingly. "You are one woman. Do you have an army of Elf-Maids to come to my assistance?"
genghisdon: "if all this is true, the other river lords ought be natural aliies for your people"
Smon: Varuna nods, touching her throat. "I fear... Sir Hawkes' man, Sir Garrick - you know him well, yes?"
genghisdon: "as for elf aid, one never knows...but it's unlikely, in truth."
genghisdon: "yes, although sometimes i don't think i really do"
Smon: Varuna: "You are with Hawkes too, but I feel I can trust you... What do you think of Garrick? I feared... I feared he meant me harm."
Smon: "...I know that Hawkes is a great manipulator of men. And if he means to marry Maria Kallent to Luke Egarne... a pincer movement to destroy Herdley... you see..."
genghisdon: " He seemed to think you an enemy at first, so that might be true, but I am sure he is open to learning better
Smon: Varuna looks up thoughtfully at the white clouds scudding across the sky.
Smon: "Perhaps you should tell him - I am an only child, but I have many cousins... My death would serve them little." She smiles wryly.
genghisdon: "I wouldn't say any of the human nobility I've met is particularily skillful at manipulation or intelligence...Talworth being a possible exception, though I've not actually met them
Smon: Varuna looks down. "The Redfort, perhaps... but perhaps not."
genghisdon: "you aren't going to die anytime soon, lady"
genghisdon: "in fact, if you are correct, your possition is going to grow stronger; and in either case, your lands will be better off"
Smon: "All humans die soon..." A bell tolls from the chapel tower. "It is time for the funeral of the old Earl." She pauses. "Stronger? How so?"
genghisdon: "whatever Garrick may or may not be or fell, he's effective at getting rid of bandits...and i'm doubly so"
genghisdon: "we will know who is behind them soon, and they will be eliminated to boot"
genghisdon: "shall we go see to the dead earl?"
Smon: "I'm sure you are." she grins. "Perhaps we wlll meet some more bandits on the way to my castle, and you can make a start! Now let us meet the others."
Smon: GM: The funereal bells toll throughout Castle Kallent. The Kallent and their vassal barons - Grane, Aldrun, and many landed knights - pack the chapel to pay their respects to Earl Byron.
Smon: Sweetrede is with Cassandra Starling near the back, the front row being for family only.
chris107: SR says a silent prayer to the Moon, keeper of souls.
Smon: Garrick as family now is on the front bench, with Tabitha, while Varuna has Morgana sit with her in the second row with the Vassal Barons.
Smon: Father Thadeus: "Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the life of our dear friend and Lord, the Earl Byron, fifth of his name..."
Smon: The service goes on a long time, though there are few left of Byron's generation. Earl George gives a long speech.
Smon: There is a final prayer. Fr Thadeus: "In sure and certain knowledge of the resurrection of the body upon the Last Day, we consign our brother Byron's soul into the hands of his Maker."
genghisdon: morganna considers how these humans may indeed have some different kind of afterlife
Smon: The service concludes and the assembly moves out of the crowded chapel - immediate family inc Garrick go with Thadeus to the family crypt beneath the castle, where Byron is interred with his ancestors, followed by a funeral dinner in the Great Hall.
Smon: As Garrick is going up with Tabitha to the dinner, Earl George pulls him aside. "A word, Garrick?"
Goonergeezer: g: my lord?
Smon: George ushers him into a side chamber - Sir Ulrich is there.
Smon: George: "Um... You had a word with my sister Dame Gertrude, yes?"
Goonergeezer: garrick nods to ulrich
Goonergeezer: g: i did my loed
Smon: Ulrich nods cordially, lighting a pipe.
Smon: George: "You want Maria to marry Prince Luke Egarne?!"
Goonergeezer: garrick: i see it as a good match for our family, it gains us a much needed ally and helps us protect out border against herdly, if they were to mobilise agaiunst us allies to their south would decimate them
Smon: George scratches his head. "Um, yes... To tell the truth Garrick, Ulrich can tell you, I'm not much for all this politics shenanigans. Ulrich tells me you're a very smart fellow, got your head on right, eh?"
Smon: Ulrich nods, puffing.
Goonergeezer: garrick: i would rather have the prince as an ally than as a possible enemy in ther future, my lord sir ulrich knows best
Smon: George: "Hmm.. Old Count Ludwig Herdley, he was a fearsome devil. But his daughter Varuna, she's just a slip of a girl, hardly seems a threat, eh?"
Smon: "Ulrich keeps telling me it's Talworth we need to watch for. Talworth Talworth Talworth..."
Smon: Ulrich just puffs.
Goonergeezer: g: not a threat at all which leads me to believe that dunfalcon could mobilise an army against them, if they were to fall the dunfalcon would look to our lands next
Goonergeezer: g: sir ulrich is correct and our biggesat threat at the moment is talworth
Smon: George nods. "Yes, indeed! We do have a few people in Dunfalcon - I hear Prince Luke is looking to make a name for himself with a conquest, and Herdley is the obvious target. You think we should ally with him?"
Smon: "Won't he come for us next? And if he's married to Maria, he has a claim to our lands..."
Goonergeezer: g: i think we should do everything we can in protecting our lands, if that involves a marrage between our families then so be it
Goonergeezer: g: it is a murky and dark game we play and many outcomes are yet to be realised
Smon: George looks a bit unhappy. "I didn't become Earl just to have Kallent become a vassal of Dunfalcon, though..."
Smon: Make another CHA check, +2 again
Goonergeezer: g: we have long been enemies with herdly,, perhaps then we could strengthen our ties with them
Goonergeezer rolls 1d20 and gets:

Smon: George rubs his chin. "On balance, there's a lot to say for it. It would end the Herdley threat, for sure..."
Goonergeezer: (perhaps with some good work for varuna we can mend part of our broken relationship)

Goonergeezer: g: we have been invited to dunfalcon, let my group go and seee what we can learn there, we can hold council on our return
Smon: George nods. "Very good. Might as well go with Varuna tomorrow, then? Take Maria on to Dunfalcon?" Ulrich coughs.
Goonergeezer: g: indeed she can accompany us, but there will be no talk of marrage
Goonergeezer: g: let our maria mett prince luke
Smon: George nods. "Great! That's settled then. Before you go my wife will talk to Maria about how to charm a Prince..."
Smon: OOC: Looking like a good setup for next session
genghisdon: ok
Smon: George ushers Garrick & Ulrich back outside, joining the main crowd for dinner.
genghisdon: can i get a quick word with gulaza in private before the end?
Goonergeezer: ooc : yep bandits and dunfalcon here we come :-)
Smon: Anything else we should do tonight? Thinking I'll start next session w departure for Herdley & Dunfalcon.
