Hail Smon, and well met!
Smon Has entered the room
chris107: Evening
Goonergeezer: hello simpomn
Goonergeezer: oooo bad typo there
chris107:
chris107: Been reading through the background stuff earlier.
Goonergeezer: plenty of stuff for us to do down south
chris107: hadn't realized thatyou had plans to do away with your brides family!
Goonergeezer: i want to rule kallent
Goonergeezer: very badly in all probability
chris107: Perhaps the 'powers of nature' can help you in that respect. If the new ruler respects nature.
chris107: And get shut of those stuffy churchmen. Stopping you having loads of fun.
chris107: Frolicking with Nymphs & such.
Goonergeezer: no frollicking for me im a married man
Smon: hi guys, sorry I was just finishing some work w the speakers off
Smon: 12 pt...
chris107: Not when all her family are dead
Smon: much better
Smon: be a couple mins
chris107: Yeah! all back working
chris107: Frolicking is practically compulsory in the old faith
Goonergeezer: the idea is that she is unaware that it has been me thats killed them all
Goonergeezer: what about multiple wives?
chris107: Just an idea - OOC of course
chris107: As many as you can handle.
chris107: or want
chris107: It's all about fertility after all..
genghisdon Has entered the room
genghisdon: hi
Goonergeezer: evening gheng
chris107: Hey Don
chris107: 2nd level spells for you tonight Don?
genghisdon: maybe
genghisdon: speaking of levels, simon, I didn't have L3 HP
genghisdon: 7 HP at L1+L2 HP (10) +familiar(2)=2
genghisdon: 12
Smon: "speaking of levels, simon, I didn't have L3 HP" - is this deja vu all over again?
genghisdon: no, add it up...it's minimal
Smon: You have 14 hp w familiar, as we went into at length last week...
genghisdon: alrighty then
Smon: I'm planning to start this evening's game the day after the funeral, with a planning meeting
Smon: @Chris did you see my big expansion of the Royal Court at Dunfalcon, as well as Herdley?
chris107: @ Simon - No, plenty of reading still to do.
Smon: I'm experimenting with using a systemless book called '1001 NPCs' - I decided to only use it for Dunfalcon to start with, see if it works well. At worst it can only ruin 1 city.
chris107: Sweterede needs to know who to influence.
chris107:
Smon: Royal Dunfalcon -http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/royal-court-at-dunfalcon.html
Smon: Half the NPCs in the book are female, in many male roles, they were deliberately gender-blind which leads to some really weird characters.
chris107: I like.
Goonergeezer: more for us all to charm
chris107: Bugger, going to that link has taken this down to one line
genghisdon: no worries
chris107: There thats better.
Smon: One I'm *not* using from the SF section is a straight female serial killer who likes to rape & dismember male victims - basically it's a male serial killer with the sex swapped, and there are lots more like that. It's some kind of Political Correctness thing I think.
chris107: I like the page
Goonergeezer: i had a pc ;like that many years ago
chris107: Shame they don't have miniatures for all of them.
Goonergeezer: didnt do the rape tho
Smon: For Dunfalcon I turned one of the female NPCs back to male, but I decided to keep most of them female as it fitted with King Yrag being a kind of Colonel Gadaffi type, with a sort of quasi-harem
genghisdon: better chris?
genghisdon: lol
chris107: I'm back to normal thanks Don - 12 will do. Steve put me on the right track
genghisdon: cool
genghisdon: what was the trouble?
chris107: There was a spanner icon in the top right of my screen that I must have caught. I just needed to reset the zoom size.
genghisdon: very gygax family there, eh? was gary a womanizer?
chris107: No idea Don
genghisdon: nakid babes do everything
genghisdon: courtiers, warriors, ect
genghisdon: anyway, what is out strategy session about?
chris107: SR is happy to take a back seat until he gets up to speed with the intigue.
Smon: just having dinner brb
genghisdon: gooner?
Goonergeezer: yea?
chris107: Didn't we leave it after I'd charmed your thiefy lady?
Goonergeezer: no real idea, i think it might just be some instruction from the nobles before we heqad off
chris107: And we were going to Dunfalcon then onto bandit HQ?
Goonergeezer: bandit hq first then dunfalcon
chris107: Cool with SR
Goonergeezer: we are gonna check out dunfalcon before the lady maria goes there
chris107: Okay. How many days to Bandit HQ?
Goonergeezer: its gonna be a bit of a spying mission i think]
chris107: Would be good to go in with a full compliment of spells.
Smon: map page:http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/regional-sketch-map.html
chris107: And HP. How are everyones HP?
chris107: Haha I dare not follow any links. It seems to bugger things up this end :/
Goonergeezer: im on full
chris107: Me too
chris107: Don got groped by the foul Christian priest but not sure how that left things.
chris107: You sure you want these horrid fellows in your real GG?
chris107: realm*
Goonergeezer: i'll take help whereever i can get it
chris107: Hoped you'd think that way
genghisdon: I did?
Smon: GM: Previous session -http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/regional-sketch-map.html
chris107: You did. The vicar copped a feel while healing you.
genghisdon: I thought u guys cancelled last time?
genghisdon: oh, yeah
chris107: You dont get that with Nature
Goonergeezer: yea thats from time before
Smon: last session was last Thursday
genghisdon: Morg doesn't mind
genghisdon: gooner, i meant what is the planning about?
chris107: Just another base exploitation of nature by humanity!
Smon: GM: 20/9/96 - the day after the funeral, there is a feast in honour of Earl Byron's life. That evening some of the local gentry depart for their homes, other nobles will leave tomorrow morning, including Countess Varuna.
chris107: well if we're going to Bandit HQ...
chris107: That's the one Garrik tried throttling?
chris107: But is now chums with.
genghisdon: yes
Goonergeezer: not quite chums yet but i am gonna work on it
Smon: Garrick, Morganna and the trusted 'wise man' Sweetrede are summoned to Earl George's planning room, finding Sir Ulrich and his silent esquire Lars Frank in attendance.
Smon: George nods affably: "Good, good, there y'all are! Come on in!"
Goonergeezer: garrick: good mornign my lords
genghisdon: "good day, my lords"
chris107: SR greets all affably
Smon: (it's evening)
He glances to Ulrich: "Lots to talk about! We just had a little tete-a-tete with the Countess Varuna!"
genghisdon: "oh?"
Smon: Ulrich nods: "It seems, as you might have gathered, that she fears Dunfalcon is planning an attack. Herdley has been buying arms from the Wright trading coster, and she was seeking an alliance with Kallent..."
Goonergeezer: garrick: i trust the countess is well and the meeting ended favourably
Goonergeezer: Garrick: but could we trust her at ther word?
Smon: George shrugs: "Oh, well, you know..." Ulrich: "The Earl remained non-commital, in view of his plans regarding Lady Maria and the Prince of Dunfalcon..."
Goonergeezer: garrrick: better we will know our plans after our visit to dunfalcon
Smon: Ulrich: "After she left, George and I had a good discussion, there are some matters.... Firstly, it would be inadvisable to send Maria along with the Countess into Herdley. We feel she should pass through without the Herdleys' knowledge."
Smon: Ulrich: "I understand that you plan to escort Varuna back to Herdley tomorrow, and do some bandit hunting afterwards? Is that correct?"
genghisdon: yes
Smon: George nods: "Well, that sounds fine. Garrick, you indicated just now, you intend to go on from Herdley to Dunfalcon?"
Goonergeezer: Garrick: yes it would be ill advised to ignore the invitation
Goonergeezer: #garrick: pluis we could perhaps learn more about what kind of man the prince is
Smon: George nods: "Yes, quite. I think an alliance with Dunfalcon could offer many opportunities. Although there are dangers..."
Smon: Ulrich: "I've visited Dunfalcon a few times. My understanding is that the Prince chafes at the long years of peace, and seeks conquest, like his ancestors. The trick will be to satisfy him with Herdley, and see he is not tempted to move further north. Currently Herdley is a useful buffer for Kallent..."
Goonergeezer: garrick: if a marriage was arranged perhaps a public address where maria renounced all claim to the kallent estate....?
Smon: George: "But, would that not displease Prince Luke?"
genghisdon: "so he is a fool, then? a war monger?"
Smon: Ulrich looks at Morgana and grins, scratching an old scar on his cheek.
Goonergeezer: garrick: it was just an idea, but if we could legally do this but keep it quiet...
Smon: "Aren't we all fools, elf-maid?"
chris107: SR - 'Sirs the affairs of state are above my poor head but would the combined forces of the countess and yourself not disuade this prince. And still leve the buffer in place?'
genghisdon: "it seems that way sometimes...but he is young I assume?'
Smon: Ulrich nods. "Nineteen years of age."
Smon: George listens to Sweetrede. "Yes, wise one. That's the thing - that's been our policy a long time. Keep Herdley too weak to threaten us, but strong enough to buffer us. That's what Byron always said."
genghisdon: "well, perhaps he can be brought to wisdom without getting too many other people killed"
chris107: 'Always we have wisdom from our elven friend'
Smon: Ulrich nods to Morgana. "Yes - so a fact-finding mission certainly seems in order. We are not yet committed to any course."
chris107: 'The lives of the young could be better spent than their blood watering your fields'
Smon: George: "And Varuna seems to like you, Morgana. You can pick up some useful info on Herdley too, no doubt."
genghisdon: "no doubt"
genghisdon: brb
chris107: In that case I'll make another Lemsip. Back in 2
Smon: George nods again at Sweetrede's words. "Aye, Oak Ridge last year was a nasty business. And then my son, Edward...." he breaks off quickly.
Smon: George looks down, taking a large swig from a whisky goblet.
chris107: back
Smon: George: "Very well then. Garrick, you'll command the escort for Varuna. I'll send ten men with you to Herdley tomorrow, they'll make a good show and can deal with any bandits you find. Come back in a few weeks and let us know the lie of the land in Herdley and Dunfalcon, and we can decide on sending Maria then."
Smon: Lars Frank escorts the three of you out, and you retire.
Goonergeezer: Garrick: do we need to pan anymore, or do we all retire for the evening?
chris107: SR discreetly to Garrik - @ I take it Lord George lost his son in this recent battle?'
Smon: GM: 21/9/96 - Next morning, Varuna's newly repaired coach and new horses is brought into the castle courtyard, along with steeds for her escort, Kallent soldiers in shining steel.
genghisdon: "good morning countess, companions:"
chris107: @GM Same spells as last time for SR
Goonergeezer: garrick@ swetereed sir george lost his son when he was with me hunting an ogre that turned out to be a troll
chris107: 'Ah,,,,'
Goonergeezer: garrick bows low "good morning countess"
chris107: A tradgedy
genghisdon: damed trolls
chris107: 'Your Grace'
Smon: The Countess is looking fine in a new mourning-dress. She smiles to you all. "Sir Garrick, thank you for offering to escort me home. Morganna and wise Sweetrede, you must sit with me in the coach. It is quite comfortable."
chris107: SR 'Perhaps out riders to spy for chains would be appropriate?'
genghisdon: "we would be most pleased to"
chris107: @The bandits seem quite keen on the trick'
Goonergeezer: Garrick calls for his men to mount up and then does so himself to ride at the head of the collumn, one to be sent as an outrider
genghisdon: sleep & charm p, as usual
genghisdon: bow strung
chris107: SR happily agrees to ride with such charming company.
Smon: Varuna pouts to Sweetrede: "You would prefer to ride with the soldiers? Then I will have only Morgana to keep me company..."
chris107: 'If it suits your Grace, of course'
genghisdon: "I think swettrede will be most agreeable to our company, varuna"
chris107: @ Thorn would be out of place between two such sweet roses.'
Smon: GM: Garrick mounts up and gets the men in order. They're commanded by Trask, a grizzled veteran sergeant with many battle scars.
genghisdon: "a diplomat indeed"
genghisdon: is gulaza riding in the back?
genghisdon: or staying?
Goonergeezer: Garrick: trask you know the men best, i will leave it to you to arrange scouts and such
Smon: Gulaza as a servant goes on top of the coach, normally.
genghisdon: ok
Smon: Although I assumed she was staying.
chris107: SR will do that too if he can?
genghisdon: ok agasin
Smon: OOC I guess there's the issue re the charm wearing off!
genghisdon: not really, if it's getting applied every day or 2
chris107: OOc assuming 10-12 IQ 3 weeks for the druid version
genghisdon: OOC but honestly, garrick can have her
Goonergeezer: OOC did ulrich get me one of thoase charm necklaces?
genghisdon: we haven't followed up on the leads she affords in almost a year
Smon: (depends how long you're away from her, if you leave her in Kallent)
Smon: OOC after breakfast that morning, Ulrich gave Garrick an elfstone amulet - 90% MR vs charm, 10 charges
genghisdon: (what do you guys ant to do about her? Being CG I can't just slit her throat)
Goonergeezer: OOc ok ty, i thanked hime greatly etc
chris107: OOC Wont she be useful at the bandit HQ?
chris107: OOC If only to fill us in on the leadership?
genghisdon: I doubt it, wrong bandits...but then she ought come with us
chris107: OOC She's an extra target.
Smon: GM: Sweetrede gets on top of the coach. I'll say Ulrich will keep Gulaza, as an Easterling would likely arose suspicion this far west.
genghisdon: yeah, that's actually a problem for my CG chr
chris107: OOC Rather inside the tent pi.... well you know.
genghisdon: "send her to the mines as you once desired, lord Ulrich"
Smon: There's room for Sweetrede on the riding board of the coach beside Varuna's man, healed of his wounds by Fr Thadeus.
genghisdon: can one of the soldiers lead my horse?
Smon: You say your goodbyes, Tabitha comes up to Garrick with an embroidered silk handkerchief. "For you my love, to remember me while you're gone."
chris107: SR 'That's fine for me'
Smon: The soldiers bring some spare horses, inc Morgana's.
genghisdon: great
Goonergeezer: Garrick kisses Tabithas: an army could not keep me from returning to you my love"
Smon: Sgt Trask to Garrick: "Suggest we ride in column two abreast sir, leave two men behind the coach to lead the extra horses, you and me up front to keep an eye out for chains..."
genghisdon: I'll lightning fly where he will, just remain somewhat nearby
Smon: Garrick bends down and sweeps up his wife for a goodbye kiss, then the great gates open and you ride out...
Goonergeezer: garrick: agreed Sgt
Smon: From Castle Kallent you ride down the track onto the Dunfalcon Pike to Midgrove, passing the rambling pile of St Trinia's school...
Goonergeezer: Garrick gives his best smile to all the young ladies
Smon: A large gaggle of 18 year old girls in school uniform and two somewhat older women are heading down to the river for a bathe before the weather turns, they smile and wave at Sir Garrick and his dashing host.
genghisdon: "best we keep brigands far from this place"
Smon: Varuna nods to Morgana. "Indeed - those girls are so... sweet..." From Midgrove the Pike runs southwest, and soon you see the dismal expanse of the Horsham Swamp to the right, encroaching closer towards the Pike.
chris107: SR doffs his jaunty cap
Goonergeezer: Garrick @ seargeant : it was here abouts where the troll slew edward
genghisdon: "any particular rogues of note among the villains plaguing your fair lands, countess?"
Smon: Trask nods grimly. "Could still be out there... the men have firebrands." Varuna looks thoughtful: ""Well, there are rumours - of a Black Priest, an Anti-Cleric..." You have been riding about two hours since leaving Castle Kallent and are passing by a particularly dismal stretch of swamp, when...
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
5,
Smon: Sweetrede sees it first, movement in the swamp off to the right of the trail. Something man-sized, heading towards the road just ahead of the lead riders...
genghisdon: what's #5?
genghisdon: eagle vision help?
Smon: see who spotted first, 5 = Sweetrede
chris107: SR Hails Garrick & the men 'Look to the right!'
Smon: Morganna has a great view of Varuna's decolletage
genghisdon: i look, then look left after
Goonergeezer: garrick scans the area to the right
chris107: Then shouts down to Morganna. 'Maybe trouble Morgs!'
Eliana Has entered the room
genghisdon: if a human can see it, hawk sight ought make it very clear...
Smon: At the head of the column, Garrick looks right and sees a grim figure in heavily rent and rusted platemail, stagger onto the road.
chris107: Evening Eli
genghisdon: hi Eli
genghisdon: "grettings wanderer, are you in need of assistance?"
Eliana hiding and moving silently as much as she can with her mithril bikini chain mail and lucky panties..!
Goonergeezer: garrick urges his horse forward
Eliana: Hi!
genghisdon: nice
chris107: @GM - How does spell casting work from atop a moving coach?
Smon: Trask sees it a moment later and yells, bringing the column to a halt. The figure lurches towards you down the road, dragging a heavy greatsword that gleams with baleful witchfire...
Goonergeezer: does garrick recognise the blade?
genghisdon: "no reply to my hails..." M fires a warning shot at his feet
genghisdon: "HALT!"
chris107: SR prepares Faerie Fire
Smon: The coach and riders come to a halt, Garrick moving ahead of the others. The greatsword is familiar - The Sword of Amaul, the sword wielded by Sir Edward Kallent...
Smon: Morganna you can't see the figure from where you are inside the coach.
Goonergeezer: Garrick shouts out "Its edward!! and dismounts and runs up to him
genghisdon: "he's become undead?!" m sounds horrified
Smon: (hi Eliana, I like your chain bikini)
genghisdon: "CAUTION GARRICK"
chris107: SR 'Beware Garrick!'
genghisdon: (me too, but the lucky panties even more so)
Goonergeezer: garrick slows and draws his weapon
Eliana: (
)
genghisdon: lol
chris107: @GM how far away is the figure?
Smon: (panties good) Garrick dismounts and runs forward. The figure lifts off the rusty helm, revealing the gaunt, pale face of Sir Edward. "Garrick! It's you!" he yells happily. "I thought you dead!"
Smon: (he's about 150' from the coach, 15' from Garrick)
genghisdon: "Edward lives...praise Corellon"
chris107: (Thanks)
Eliana Has exited the room
Goonergeezer: Garrick pulls out his waterskin and hands it to edward : Sweetrede quickly come heree
genghisdon: (makes me wonder how the troll hunt went, but ?)
chris107: SR makes to dismount the carriage.
Smon: Edward gratefully takes the waterskin and quaffs. "Thanks... well, do I have a tale to tell you!"
Smon: Sweetrede dismounts and heads forward.
Eliana Has entered the room
genghisdon: brb
Smon: GM: Varuna sticks her head out the carriage window, watching curiously as Sweetrede joins Garrick & Edward.
Goonergeezer: garrick: yes i bet you have a tale, we thought you dead
chris107: @ GM - SR is unsure, having been told about the demise of this fellow. He brings Heat Metal to mind.
Smon: Edward: "*cough*... Yes, I should have been... I was so close to death... She saved me, Garrick! She saved me!" His eyes almost seem to glow.
chris107: @Just in case!'
Goonergeezer: garrick: the white lady?
Smon: Edward staggers, leaning on the sword. "*cough*... still a bit under the weather... Yes, Garrick. The Lady!"
Smon: He looks to Sweetrede. "Hullo there. You're Cassandra Starling's man, right? You know of the White Lady of Kallent? She saved me from the Troll!"
Goonergeezer: garrick helps edward towards the coach, sweetrede can you heal him?
chris107: SR upon hearing comfimation that this is indeed Edward, casts CLW on the poor soul.
Smon: Edward gestures into the swamp. "I woke up, somewhere in there, in a grotto... She tended to me... spoke to me... It was like a fever dream, but I remember some things..."
Smon: roll d8
Goonergeezer: garrick : what do you remember?
chris107 rolls 1d8 and gets:
7,
Smon: Edward looks a lot better. "Powerful magic! My thanks. She said... She said dark times were coming for the Kallent. An evil force..."
Goonergeezer: garrick: and did she name this evil cource?
Smon: Edward looks over at the coach. "Er, is that a Herdley coach? Is that Countess Varuna stickin' her head out?"
Goonergeezer: source?
Goonergeezer: garrick: yes we are escorting lady varuna back to her castle
Smon: Edward shakes his head. "No, I don't recall... She said I had to be strong, stay with her, be healed... but I couldn't wait. My father, my wife... My wife! How is she Garrick? The child?!"
Smon: He grips Garrick's shoulders.
Goonergeezer: garrick: edward i have news for you too, you have a healthy son
Smon: Edward smiles in great relief. "I have to go to her - to them! Could you lend me a horse?"
genghisdon: "this white lady deserves our thanks"
Smon: Morganna joins the others.
Goonergeezer: garrick: but i fear the loss of you was too much for the old earl....
genghisdon: "take mine edward"
genghisdon: oops
Smon: Edward looks to Morgana: "My thanks... Earl Byron? He's dead?!"
genghisdon: "Garrick, send a man with Edward, if you think it wise"
Goonergeezer: Garrick: he is brother of mine
Smon: Edward: "Then... my father is Earl..."
Goonergeezer: indeed sgt assign a man to escort edward home
genghisdon: "and his heart will bew full knowing you let live"
Goonergeezer: garrick: your father is, but i fear he has taken to drink, your return will bring him back to health i hope
Smon: Trask nods: "Of course. Private Nobby, you're relieved - go with Sir Edward! See him safe to the Castle!"
Smon: Edward looks to Garrick and nods. "Yes, it must have been very hard for him. That's why I couldn't stay with... with Her..."
Goonergeezer: garrick: it is good to see you alive the future of kallent is doubly safe with your return
Smon: Edward breaks off as Countess Varuna comes sauntering up, eyebrow raised archly. "Good morning, Lord Edward. I see you live." Edward looks at her cautiously: "Countess. A pleasure." Nobby helps him mount Morganna's mare.
chris107: @ GM - What colour hair did Dame heather of Flowerbrooke have?
Smon: Heather has a pic now:http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/flowerbrook.html
chris107: (If not white it doesn't matter)
Smon: brunette
genghisdon: "I will send lightning to keep an eye on you both" (and instruct lightning to return along our path of travel after)
Goonergeezer: ooc(i has that thought also)
Smon: >>A tall, good-looking brunette woman in a long white gown, flowers in her hair, comes out to meet you, smiling graciously.<<
chris107: OOC It was the 'White Lady - White gown maybe?'
Smon:
genghisdon: (or it's another woman)
genghisdon: (or a fever dream?)
chris107: OOC The powers of nature are many fold
chris107: OOC Note to self to investigate later...
Smon: >>garrick: it is good to see you alive the future of kallent is doubly safe with your return<< Edward grins: "And trebly safe with you on our side, Sir Garrick! Now, adieu! To the Castle!"
Goonergeezer: garrick : edward tell my wife that i am missing her already
genghisdon: Perhaps she wasa limniad, or swamp nymph?
Smon: Edward: "Will do!" He and Pvt Nobby ride back along the Pike to Castle Kallent. Varuna watches them go, smiling wryly, arms folded.
genghisdon: "do you know Edward, countess?"
Smon: Varuna: "A swamp nymph - yes... a Spirit of the Otherworld."
Smon: Varuna: "I know Edward only a little. He seems... capable. I hear his father relies much on his advice, when Sir Hawkes is not around."
Smon: She glances at Garrick. "It is good to have wise advisors, yes?"
Goonergeezer: garrick: it is my lady
Smon: Varuna nods: "Then Earl George is much blessed!" She laughs lightly.
chris107: SR 'I wonder at the wisdom of entrusting such a precious thing to so light a protection as one guard in these dark times.'
Smon: Sergeant Trask looks doubtful. "Should I send more men after them?"
Goonergeezer: garrick: sgt send another man in quieter tone tell him to keep a very close eye on edward i fear something may be amiss
genghisdon: "ah, we just travelled that path, they will be fine...besides, lightning will return to ease your minds"
chris107: SR 'Would it not devestate Sir george to loose his son a second time?'
Smon: Trask nods, looking out over the dismal marshes. "Gutman! Follow Nobby and Lord Edward! Go!"
Smon: A second soldier nods and gallops back up the trail.
Smon: Varuna nods: "Morgana's Hawk will warn them of any harm."
Goonergeezer: Garrick: we have tallied enough, we should be back on the road if we wish to travel any great distance today"
genghisdon: "indeed" M helps the countess back up
chris107: SR climbs back on the coach.
Goonergeezer: brb 2 secs kettle boiling
Smon: Varuna: "Indeed - we must at least make Hareboro. I wish to visit my in-law, Dame Lysana. We have matters to discuss. Come, Morgana." She heads back to the coach.
Smon: M helps Var back into the coach & you set off again.
Eliana Has exited the room
Smon: You pass over a bridge and through the marshside village of Hardswich, passing a few peasants and a couple traders' wagons as you continue down the Pike.
Smon: At lunchtime you pass the village of Rastun, three and a half hours from Castle Kallent.
Smon: /roll 1d10
Smon rolls 1d10 and gets:
4,
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets:
52,
Smon: A large herd of sheep are passing across the road ahead...
Smon: /roll 1d4+1
Smon rolls 1d4+1 and gets:
4, (+1) = 5
genghisdon: we slow/halt
genghisdon: "shall we stop for a meal?"
Smon: 3 shepherdesses and a boy of 12 are being directed by an old white-beard man, who watches your convoy come to a halt. He waves. "Ho there!"
genghisdon: "ho!"
Goonergeezer: garrick: let us continue until we get to Varuna's destination
chris107: "Hail"
Smon: Varuna looks across the meadowlands you're passing through. "Yes, a light lunch! Excellent notion!"
Goonergeezer: garrick scans the land to the left and rtight while this takes place
chris107: @ Garrik - Perhaps we could ask this good fellow for news?
genghisdon: (ask away mr charisma!)
Smon: The old man tips his broad-brimmed hat to Sweetrede. "It'll be a few minutes, sir. This is the Chilling flock, largest hereabouts."
chris107: SR @ Old Man " A real credit to you sir!"
Smon: The land is opened, scattered copses of trees, woods about a mile away to north and south.
Goonergeezer: garrick: sweetrede the people are more friendly to a man of the cloth that an armoured knight, you could do the homnours?
chris107: "As fine a hird as Ive seen anywhere"
Smon: The old man moves closer to the wagon, puffing on a pipe. "Aye! Not mine though! I work for Sir Rodney Chilling, they's all his!"
chris107: "Perhaps you could be so good as to tell us what you know of the road ahead?"
chris107: "Has all been safe in these parts?"
Smon: Old man: "Aye! Well, there's the damn bandits - and worse - over the Kallent Water, in Herdley country. The Herdley Countess is weak, she can't control her lands..." Inside the coach, Varuna hears this and bristles.
chris107: "Worse you say?"
genghisdon: "cough...well, she is going to have some aid with those bandits soon"
chris107: SR dismounts to talk more personaly to the fellow
Smon: Old Shepherd: "Sir Rodney, he killed a Bugbear last week - great hairy thing, size of a horse! It weren't the only one, neither..." he puffs. "Sir Rodney, 'e's gettin' old. Dunno what we'll do, when... y'know..."
chris107: Looking at the hird with his Druidy eye for the 'lead sheep'
Smon: The lead sheep has crossed the road, now grazing on the far side.
genghisdon: "these bugbears...giant hairy goblins...do they dwell nearby?"
chris107: "Nay good fellow I'm sure Sire Rodney will be in fine health for years to come"
Smon: The shepherd offers his hand to Sweetrede. "Pleased to meetcha. Tom's me name, Father Tom they call me on account o me sixteen kids..."
Smon: Tom looks to Morgana. "Aye. Up on Croak Hill, they say."
chris107: @ Shepherd - excuse me sir, I note a very fine beast there. SR approaches it mildly - Casting Speak with Sheep
Smon: ~baa~ says the sheep to Sweetrede, amicably. ~grass good...~
Smon: /roll 1d10
Smon rolls 1d10 and gets:
6,
chris107: @ Sheep, "Glad to hear it" "Is Father Tom a wise and kind man?"
Smon: The sheep looks blankly at Sweetrede, "Tom... man...2
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets:
60,
chris107: "The old white beard who tends you"
Smon: "Tom... Tom shear... us... make cold..."
genghisdon: heh
genghisdon: i gotta go...ciropractor's appointment
Smon: GM: Sweetrede recalls that Sheep are not renowned for their brains.
genghisdon: thnx for the game, see ya next time (which is?)
Smon: next Friday 6pm should be
chris107: "But keeps you cool too when the sun is in the sky" "Otherwise you arte treated well?"
chris107: See you Don
genghisdon: ok, i might be back soon, if not, see ya then
Goonergeezer: c ya don
Smon: The sheep just stares at Sweetrede. ~baa... grass good.~
Smon: Most of the flock has now passed.
chris107: OOC SR is only trying to find if the chaps a kind master and if so to encourage good behaviour in the sheep.
genghisdon Has exited the room
chris107: Not looking for any benefit
Smon:
chris107: Just doing what I think would be a druidy thing.
Smon: Once the herd has passed, you remount at Garrick's advice and continue on, Varuna & Morgana nibbling a snack in the coach.
chris107: To repay the kind man for his help. Kind of like blessing his crops
Smon: The sheep seem well under control.
chris107: All is good then
chris107: OOC Just 'cos I'm from Yorkshire doesn't make me a sheep expert!
Goonergeezer: ooc im in wales that does make me one
chris107: OOC Oh yes it does!
Smon: You pass by the well-fortified Chilling Manor off the road to your right, clearly a frontier bastion, then through Thomcross village. Two miles on from there a grim tower looms over the plain ahead.
Smon: Varuna looks out the window and smiles happily. "The Herdley Tower! My lands lie beyond!"
chris107: BRB
Goonergeezer: garrick turns to the sgt: we are entering unfreindly lands, we should be extra vigillant from now-on
Smon: Trask nods grimly to Garrick. Varuna has the coach draw up alongside Garrick so she can speak with him. "I have a garrison there, tasked with hunting the brigands of Croak Hill. I should speak with them, and rest a little. My bottom grows sore."
chris107: (Dropped chilly, just had to pop the heating on)
Goonergeezer: Garrick : my lady if you could spare a few of your men here , they will be invalublre to us, for they know the lay of the land
Smon: Varuna: "You may speak with them on your return, after you have taken me to Castle Herdley. I'm sure they would be glad of your assistance. Especially Sweetrede, he seems wise in the ways of Nature."
chris107: OOC is Croak Hill Bandit HQ?
Goonergeezer: oo c yea
Smon: OOC that's what Varuna said
chris107: (Thanks)
Goonergeezer: garrick:as you wish my lady
Smon: GM: You approach the tower, where Varuna dismounts the coach. Guards open the Tower gate and go to meet her, she speaks with them.
chris107: OOC Are the countesses family known as 'old faith?'
Smon: no
chris107: (Thanks)
Smon: Not exactly.
Smon: The Kallent say a lot of bad things about the Herdley, though!
chris107: OOC I'm assuming the situation with 'old faith' is very similar to post reformation English Catholics?
chris107: Where the prominent families who were Catholic were known to the priests.
chris107: (Catholic priests that is)
Smon: (pretty good analogy; of course the Great Church is this world's Catholicism though, with a smidgin of Ethiopian church from Neria) You remount and proceed on through the afternoon...
Smon: (The Realm has followed the Great Church for 700 years though, so it's not like England AD 1600)
chris107: (Okay, just seeing who is on who's side
)
Smon: Timeline page -http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/sunrisesunset.html
chris107: (It was the 'seems at one with nature' comment)
Smon: You pass through Waltingham. Nearing Grovling on Tamit you see a large merchant caravan of 6 wagons approaching, the men looking rather nervous.
Smon: There are a dozen armed guards in scale.
Goonergeezer: garrick will order a stop....
Goonergeezer: Ho the road!
Smon: The lead merchant is a plump fellow atop a roan palfrey, he also has his caravan stop. "Good afternoon, sir knight. What news of the road?"
Goonergeezer: Garrick the road is clear you are the first trravellers
Smon: He nods. "It's good to see a patrol! Too few these days, far too few, and the roads so dangerous..."
Goonergeezer: garrick: how fares the road on your way?
Smon: he gulps
Eliana Has entered the room
Eliana:
Smon: "No trouble, except the usual harrasment at Dunfalcon border! But I hear the land past here grows wild and dangerous indeed!"
Goonergeezer: garrick: sgt get the men ready in a hushed tone
Smon: Trask nods.
genghisdon Has entered the room
genghisdon: 'sup
Goonergeezer: garrick : let us check your wagons sir and you can be on your way
Smon: "I hear all kind of horror stories. They kill the men and take the women... no women in my caravan, though! No sir!"
Smon: "Check? For what?!"
genghisdon: "dead or captured, neither fate is appealing"
Smon: Sweat beads the plump man's brow.
genghisdon: (ruh roh, looks guilty)
Goonergeezer: garrick: sir if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear, but you seem overly nervouse
chris107: @ GM - What is the undergroth here abouts like?
Smon: Trask eyes the 12 merchant guards in scale and his own 7 men in plate: "What do we search for, Sir?"
genghisdon: (if i can just jump back in, I'll cast charm on him)
Smon: It's open meadow & heath here. You can see the smoke of Grovling ahead, and beyond forested hills rise up.
Goonergeezer: garrick: anything that shouldnt be there son
Smon: Morgana casts Charm...
chris107: (Thanks)
Smon: /roll 1d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets:
1,
Smon: He beams at Morgana.
genghisdon: "now, calm yourself & answer why you seem worried. We are friends & trustworthy"
Smon: (OOC forgot to mention they hung the 5 bandits you captured, yesterday)
genghisdon: (thx)
Smon: "*ulp*... no reason, Milady. Just these parts, make a man nervous..."
genghisdon: (rapist scum!)
genghisdon: "why? the bandits?"
Smon: Your men start searching the wagons. "Spices..." "Silk - looks fine quality - Tilean?"
Smon: The merchant nods. "Yes! They attacked my cousin Bartolomew's caravan train last month... none escaped... He was foolish, not enough guards, and his wife... I pray to the Lord her Fate was swift!"
Goonergeezer: garrick: well sir as i said, if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear, i am sorry to have detained you, carry on about your business
chris107: OOC Perhaps they have been buying off the bandits?
Smon: "...I pray for his poor soul every day..."
genghisdon: "where was he & they attacked? perhaps we can rescue her yet?"
Smon: The merchant doffs his cap and gazes piously heavenward.
genghisdon: "we have rescued many a woman from brigand devravity"
Smon: Merchant: "Where? Why somewhere around these parts! I told you, none escaped! I knew nothing of it until two weeks ago, a messenger reached Dunfalcon."
genghisdon: "what is your name, good merchant, so that if we rescue her she can get your attention?"
Smon: "This is our Coster's first run north since... I must get through, or we are ruined!"
Smon: He nods. "Unwin, Sir. Roshin Unwin."
genghisdon: "I'm sure you shall, and fetch hansome returns for your fine wares"
prespos Has entered the room
genghisdon: "I hope we have good news for you soon Roshin Unwin...do you feel need for more gaurds? I'd guess you safe, myself"
Smon: Unwin nods. "Bart's wife, her name was - is - Gloria. She has red-gold hair, very nice."
prespos is in background mode
genghisdon: "thanks you, and good journey"
chris107:
Smon: Unwin: "These twelve are the best money can buy..."
genghisdon: "I hope we find Gloria soon"
genghisdon: "then let us delay you no longer...good bye"
Smon: Unwin nods: "The Lord be with you!" He bids you farewell and you pass on.
Smon: You pass through Grovling on Tamit, a good sized bustling village, then up into wooded hills.
genghisdon: to Sweettrede & garrick: "it troubles me we have heard no names...normally these sorts are infamous"
genghisdon: "they must indeed be foreign, or else mercanaries"
Goonergeezer: garrick: something feels amiss
Smon: Past Shadeglen, then past Castle Rock, a solid mid-sized fortress that is part of the Herdley holdings...
chris107: @ Morg - "This dark priest especially"
genghisdon: "we enter your desmesnes countess"
chris107: @ Morg - "Perhaps the Her Grace knows more?"
genghisdon: ( ia sked her earlier, dunno if simon noticed or she just knows not)
Smon: Night falls as you continue on, the broad silver ribbon of the Nemo again visible to your right a couple miles away. A full moon rises.
chris107: (Ah okay)
Smon: (ooc you can try again
)
genghisdon: (ask her yourself though chris!)
chris107: (I'm on the roof as we rattle along)
Goonergeezer: garrick @ varuna "how much further countess?
genghisdon: "ah, beautiful, though she drives some men mad"
Smon: Varuna: "It is getting very late... We will stay with Dame Lysana at Hareboro tonight. Then it's a short trip on to my castle tomorrow."
genghisdon: (lightning came back ok?)
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
2,
genghisdon: "as you command"
Smon: Yes, Lightning is perched on the coach now, pretty tired.
genghisdon: (werewolf time!)
genghisdon: "good boy" M strokes his plumage
Smon: Varuna: "The moon is beautiful, yes..." she says wistfully. "You know my mother was - is - from Ostavitch. She had many tales of the moon..."
chris107: (Any news from Lightning?)
genghisdon: (he's back & seems not to have news)
Smon: Lightning reports to Morgana that Edward reached the Castle safely.
genghisdon: "oh, tell me of them countess"
genghisdon: M relates that to the rest
Smon: Varuna looks a little uncertain. "Some of them were... quite horrifying. Werewolves, and... vampires..."
Smon: "Ostavitch is a land closer to the Old Times, when Fear ruled the minds of Men. Before the Lord..."
genghisdon: "we helped save a werewolf & his intended victum once...Stanley was a good man, under a dire curse"
Smon: Varuna's mouth opens in surprise: "You faced a Werewolf?!"
genghisdon: "frightful things amounded then, but surely other, magical & magnificent things as well"
genghisdon: "indeed, he was a massive monster"
Smon: "Surely they are just tales, now? But of course, Yggsburgh, the Eastmark is a strange place also..."
genghisdon: "tales? you were there!"
Smon: OOC Varuna faced a werewolf?
Smon: OOC >>Surely they are just tales, now?<< referred to werewolves
genghisdon: oops, sorry, thought that was garrick
genghisdon: strike last
Smon: ok
Smon:
Smon: Varuna: "We still have a mile to go, and the night is chill. Come closer, and tell me how you defeated the beast..."
genghisdon: " I'm quite comfortable with magic...when it's gone so shall the elves be"
Smon: Varuna nods: "I have heard that if Elves stay too long in the Realm of Man, they fade away..."
genghisdon: M snuggles & tells her about duvader & the rest & our rescue
Smon: "...I would not wish you to fade, MOrgana."
genghisdon: "not soon, i shan't"
genghisdon: "too long is a long time indeed for an elf"
Smon: Varuna listens with great interest to the tale, asking about silver weapons and how the werewolf behaved. Your convoy slows as it approaches the courtyard gates to a rambling manor house...
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
2,
Eliana checks her hands hoping she isn't fading away...
Smon: lol
genghisdon: Eli the elf
Eliana: I was assuming hellish creatures are subject to a similar doom!
Smon: Garrick, you note there are just a couple lights on the mansion ahead - in a chapel to right of the gates, and in what might be the kitchens. The gates to the courtyard are open, and something does not feel quite right here...
chris107: (Hope not
)
genghisdon: M tells her, the whole attracted to those cared for & the rest...although she doesn;'t say how close she got with the bar maid
Smon: Varuna to M: "To hurt those we love the most... A terrible curse..."
Goonergeezer: garrick turns to the sgt send 2 men ahead somethings is wrong
chris107: OOC All those silks n' stuff?
Smon: "..My own mother, she is not very well..."
Goonergeezer: Garrick: Halt!
genghisdon: "it certainly can be...but we managed to get Stanley help, the church cured him in the end"
Goonergeezer: Garrick: turn the carrage around and ready to gflee should i call it
Smon: The coach comes to a sudden halt, almost pitching Morganna and Varuna to the floor.
genghisdon: M halts the carriage "what is it Garrick?"
genghisdon: ok
Goonergeezer: garrick@ m can you send your haswk to look, something feels wrong
genghisdon: "what are you afraid of?"
genghisdon: (it's dark, correct, simon?)
genghisdon: "sorry, he's not an owl"
Smon: As the horses come to a halt, silence falls. Trask: "You two men..." suddenly a feminine shriek carries across the still night air!
Goonergeezer: @ morg something does not feel right, i cannot explain it, but trust me
genghisdon: I'll go, I can see in the dark as a cat"
chris107: SR Will cast Faerie Fire to outline his staff several times around and give us light.
Smon: Varuna perks up: "What is that? A cry?"
Goonergeezer: garrick: first four men go to see what occours we await your call
JamesMWard Has entered the room
genghisdon: M dismounts, & heads up to the open gates (warrily) from an angle so as not to be seen/shot
genghisdon: hi jim
Goonergeezer: garrick: men hold
JamesMWard: hello are we gaming here?
genghisdon: how's infravision work simon? dpo i see heat or just see in the dark?
chris107: SR will shadow the gaurds.
genghisdon: yes, ygssburgh
Smon: The soldiers look nervously at the mansion ahead. The Corporal speaks up: "Sir, could be Brigands, Bugbears. We'll be sittin' ducks once we go through the courtyard gates..."
chris107: To give them illumination
Smon: hi JamesM yup running AD&D in Yggsburgh universe
JamesMWard: sigh, sorry,
genghisdon: (stay back!)
JamesMWard Has exited the room
genghisdon: ok
Eliana says (
Holy Lord james )
Smon: The guards don't want to enter the mansion. Sweetrede's faerie fire illuminates his staff with pale light. Morganna leaves the coach and sneaks forward.
genghisdon: dunno about holy lord, but he seems nice
genghisdon: semi-snaeaks, i'm wearing the wrong armor for this job
Smon: What armour you in?
genghisdon: PM
chris107: He's credited in the PHB right?
Smon: He wrote Deities & Demigods w Kuntz
genghisdon: I dunno, he did D&DG though
Smon: He could have lurked like El
chris107:
chris107: No one lurks like Eli!
genghisdon: heh
genghisdon: hopefully Morganna Maples does
Smon: /roll 1d6
chris107:
genghisdon: about infravision?
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
4,
Eliana: Hey!....
Eliana: Lord James is wordy of being an Holy Lord!
genghisdon: ok
Smon: Morganna reaches the gates, about 150' away from the coach. She can hear muffled voices from the lit chapel to right of the gates, though its door is shut, light comes through the large glass windows, some stained-glass.
genghisdon: Ill try to listen
Smon: Would be cool if you had a Thief right about now
genghisdon rolls 1d100 and gets:
60,
genghisdon: (if i wore my leather, i could pass for one)
chris107: (He's in Gygax's special thanks to between Dave Trampier and Tom Wham)
genghisdon: no doubt, he's an old timer
genghisdon: M moves closer, as she can't make the voices out
genghisdon: looks inside the gates
Smon: You hear men's voices, and what sounds like a shriek, but muffled - by a gag? Are you approaching the chapel door?
Smon: /roll 1d6
genghisdon: then slips over to the chapel (avoiding windows)
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
4,
genghisdon: yes
genghisdon: actually, with that I will head back to collect the rest
Smon: ok, you nip over to the chapel door, up a couple stone steps. Now you can hear a voice: "Slut! You shame all the Arleigh! You'll feel my brand, then the pleasure of my men!"
genghisdon: trouble is here
genghisdon: ah crap
chris107: SR urges the fellows he's with on
Smon: Morganna heads back?
genghisdon: i head in, then SCREAM out my sleep spell at them
genghisdon: nope, she's in imminent danger it seems
Smon: You try the chapel door?
genghisdon: yep
chris107: SR Rushes forward at hearing M's shriek
Smon: It's locked. Morganna hasn't shrieked yet.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
4,
genghisdon: son of a...
genghisdon: I head back to get the others
Smon: "There's someone at the door!" comes a voice from inside - not the first speaker, who had an aristocratic accent, this one is rough.
genghisdon: ARAGH
genghisdon: I kick it in
genghisdon rolls 1d6 and gets:
2,
Smon: You would have a 1 in 6 w STR 18/91 >
genghisdon: scream sleep spell out if it opens
genghisdon: if not i scream "open up the door fools!"
Smon: Morganna's foot bounces off the stout door - but then it's flung open!
genghisdon: SLEEP
Smon: She sees several armed men in Herdley black & gold livery, swords drawn...
chris107: 'And with that' SR runs forward!
Smon: I'll have to require an INIT roll, but Morgana wins on a tie
genghisdon rolls 1d6+2 and gets:
3, (+2) = 5
Smon: d6+2 I believe
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:

chris107: Phew! Close
genghisdon rolls 4d4 and gets:

Smon: Just as the men lunge at her with murder in their eyes...
Smon: Six men lie sleeping at her feet and inside the doorway. A gasp comes from inside.
genghisdon: I head in, sword & dagger being drawn
genghisdon: "anyone still awake?"
Goonergeezer: on hearing the scream of morgana garrick: you two stay with the countess......
chris107: (aren't these the countesses men?)
genghisdon: "or want to explain WTF is going on?"
genghisdon: (sounds like it, or their uniforms)
Goonergeezer: garrrick the rest of you, with me
Goonergeezer: garrick charges on his horse towards the chapel
chris107: SR prepares his charm spell
Smon: Morganna bursts into the chapel, as 200' behind her the others start to move forward (min 2 rounds to arrive)
Smon: (including dismount etc)
genghisdon: who/what is inside?
Smon: Morganna: To the left of the door you see two men - one greyhead and balding in purple priest's robes, looking very nervous, the other a young, slim aristocrat in burnished black platemail, with a cruel face and twirling moustache. He looks a little like Countess Varuna.
genghisdon: no woman?
Smon: Between them, tied naked to the chapel altar with her buttocks in the air, is a naked woman, a rent white dress on the floor. A branding iron is heating in a brazier.
genghisdon: "I think you had best put that down, and surrender...your countess awaits you outside"
Smon: The voluptuous, gagged redhead looks up desperately - with a shock Morgana recognises her - Candice Wright, the famous socialite of Yggsburgh?!
genghisdon: "come quietly & I'm sure you will get a chance to explain this'
genghisdon: "or maybe not...Candice?"
Smon: The aristocrat draws a slender longsword. "Get back, Witch! This is Arleigh business! This slut is mine!"
genghisdon: M walks purposefully towards them
Smon: 'Candice' shakes her head.
chris107: SR running for all he's worth!
Smon: roll init Morgana
genghisdon: "I don't think so, fool, put that down before I hurt you"
Smon: /roll 1d6
genghisdon rolls 1d6+2 and gets:

Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:

chris107:
Smon: "raarr!" he lunges at Morgana.
genghisdon: meh, I was gonna give it to him
Smon: /roll 1d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets:
2,
genghisdon: AC0
Smon: Morgana parries easily.
genghisdon: can i attempt to disarm him?
Smon: sure
Smon: he gets a save though
Smon: first vs AC 4
genghisdon rolls 1d20+1 and gets:
4, (+1) = 5
genghisdon rolls 1d20-1 and gets:
7, (-1) = 6
Smon: Blades clash... one more round
genghisdon: nope
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:

Smon: You can go again
genghisdon: ibnit?
genghisdon rolls 1d6+2 and gets:
2, (+2) = 4
Smon: you win
genghisdon rolls 1d20+1 and gets:
7, (+1) = 8
genghisdon rolls 1d20-1 and gets:
16, (-1) = 15
genghisdon: hit AC 4
Smon: hits
Smon: /roll 1d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets:
14,
genghisdon: (well AC 3 actually)
Smon: saves on 13 (PPD) he holds onto his sword.
genghisdon: "well, you can hold onto your sword, i'll give you that much"
Smon: /roll 1d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets:
6,
genghisdon: enter tha party
genghisdon: I'll keep up the disarm attempts
Smon: Morgana parries... then Garrick and several men at arms burst in, with Sweetrede.
chris107: SR will cast charm @ the aristocrat
Goonergeezer: Garrick: Drop your weapon sir!
Smon: Varuna is somewhere behind, elegantly dismounting.
genghisdon: "read to reconsider?"
genghisdon: ready
Smon: The man looks at you all, eyes wide: "Kallent! An invasion! Treachery!" He drops his sword, raising his hands.
Smon: The priest backs into a corner.
chris107: I'll hold off the spell if I can
genghisdon: whats the priest beeen up to?
genghisdon: thnx
Goonergeezer: Garrick: sirs this is not an invasion, you have nothing to gfear
genghisdon: "countess, who is this fellow& why is he kidnapping folks?"
Smon: (countess not here yet)
genghisdon: (G might have been right in the first palce)
genghisdon: M kicks his sword away
chris107: SR keeps an eye on the priest for any spell casting gestures
Goonergeezer: garrick bends and picks up the sword
genghisdon: then moves to free Candice
Smon: The man speaks to Garrick: "You are in charge? I am Lord Oscar Arleigh, and this slut has shamed the name of my deceased uncle with her lascivious antics!"
genghisdon: "what is going on here Candice?"
Smon: 'Candice' coughs as Morganna tugs off the gag. "Candice... my sister... I am Lysana!"
Smon:http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/central-herdley.html
genghisdon: "well met...still, what is going on?"
Goonergeezer: garrick: we are here escorting the countess home, i think we should let her decide who is allowed to do what to whom
Smon: Lysana is tightly bound to the altar, Morgana works on freeing her.
Smon: At this point Varuna comes in, giving the young Lord Oscar a sardonic stare. She sighs.
Goonergeezer: garrick: sir, what was to become of the lady and what had she done to incur this sort of punishment?
genghisdon: "it sounded like vile religous ritual, as well as branding, mutilation & gang rape to my ears
Eliana
x100
Goonergeezer: garrick: more debauchery on top of the slavery that this county aloows: garrick shakes his head in disbelief
Smon: Oscar reddens. "My Countess..." he bows, then turns to Garrick. "I am here at the behest of my father, the Baron Melchet! To end the shame of this slut's behaviour, I was commanded to marry her, though she is eight years my senior, and soon her dugs will grow flat and shrivelled. To restore the honour of the Arleigh! Yet she refused even that! I will not be insulted!"
genghisdon: "but lets hear them all out"
genghisdon: "odd marriage customs..."
Goonergeezer: garrick: and your law allows this without the lady presenting her case?
genghisdon: Herdley is sometimes seen as decadent by the other River Lords; slavery is common and unscrupulous slavers may sometimes seize victims from other nearby demesnes, a source of friction with Kallent in particular. There are also rumours of debauchery at Castle Herdley.
Smon: Morgana finishes freeing the naked dame, she rubs her reddened wrists, shivering. "He did... he came this afternoon, demanded I marry him..."
genghisdon: (I'm glad M uses the non-lethal approach when possible)
chris107: SR returns her the torn garments.
chris107: And covers her with his cloak
genghisdon: M thinks her dugs seem neither flat nor shrivewlled just yet
Smon: The dress seems ruined, but Dame Lysana gratefully wraps the cloak around herself.
genghisdon: but I've gotta go eat, so sort it out fellows
genghisdon: till next time
chris107: See ya Don
Goonergeezer: #c ya m8
genghisdon Has exited the room
Smon: Varuna sighs again, glares at Oscar. "Branding a naked woman on an altar of the Lord is hardly appropriate, even for you, Oscar! What were you thinking?!"
chris107: I should get going around 22:00 as well Simon
Smon: (we'll end by 10pm yup) Oscar grimaces: "I intended to marry her here. When she refused me, I saw red. It was... convenient..."
chris107: SR gives him an unpleasant stare
Goonergeezer: Garrick: i am sure you are the apple of your fathers eye sir
chris107: (and thinks about roasting him in his shiny black plate mail)
Smon: Oscar looks pale as Sweetrede glares at him. Varuna looks at Dame Lysana. "I have to say, Lysana, I too have heard the rumours. Your husband is barely cold in his grave, yet you entertain gentlemen here with gay abandon..."
Smon: Lysana blushes, looking down. Varuna: "I understand they do things differently in Yggsburgh, but you married into Herdley. We do things differently here..."
Smon: Varuna yawns prettily. "My good guests, Sir Garrick, Sweetrede - what do you think is the solution here? What would you do, in my place?"
Smon: ooc if you like we could stop there.
chris107: @ Veruna - I think perhaps young Oscar got carried away. I'm sure this young lady - what ever her faults didn't deserve mutilation and rape as her fate
Goonergeezer: garrick: since you are in charge, order the girl to mend her ways and if she disssapoints then to a monastry
chris107: @ Oscar - I'm sure an apology will suffice for now.
chris107: @ The priest - And what sir, were you doing allowing this travesty?
Goonergeezer: garrick: as for this.....Man. i would tell him that we have laws and courts for a reason abnd he should obide by them, or be judged by them
Smon: Varuna nods to Sweetrede. "No, of course she did not deserve rape, and branding upon her buttocks. Oscar, you were very naughty." She listens to Garrick. "Yes... excellent! to a Nunnery, though, not a Monastery! I shudder to think what temptation Lysana would lay before the good Monks!"
chris107: Haha!
chris107:
Goonergeezer: garrick: yes a nunnery i always get the two confused
Smon: The priest looks down, shamefaced, at Sweetrede's words.
chris107: I'd missed that one!
Goonergeezer: garrick: yes, the priest......
chris107: @ Countess - Your Grace, will you give surity for this womans saftey?
Goonergeezer: garrick: for allowing such to occour in a temple to our lord, he should host a feast for the poor
Goonergeezer: garrick: paid for by his own means and not that of the church
chris107: From the hands of your brother and his agents?
Smon: Oscar: "He is my father's priest, sent with me to perform the wedding." Varuna: "He should definitely give penance! And you, Oscar, say you are sorry."
chris107: @ Veruna - And her safety?
Eliana Has exited the room
Smon: Lord Oscar reddens further. "My Countess, I am sorry. My actions were inadvised. You understand the stress we are all under..."
chris107: @ GM - is it possible to 'Heat metal' on a specific piece of armour? Say Oscar's cod piece or arse protector?
Smon: Varuna nods to Sweetrede, a little curtly. "Lysana! You will desist from entertaining any more men, or I will have you sent to Welstone Abbey, where you will spend your days in penance! And tomorrow I shall send a letter to my cousin the Baron Melchet, informing him of this."
Smon: ooc: @chris - sure, why not.
chris107: OOC Then maybe as he leaves 'The Good Lord' will give him something to think about for profaining his alter
chris107: (If it can be achieved discreetly)
Smon: Its VSM but I'll say you can do a cantripy minor version sotto voce that doesn't kill but does give him something to think about.
chris107: (Sounds perfect)
Smon: Varuna yawns: "Now, Oscar, take your men and go. You have a long way home tonight. Lysana, have your servants prepare quarters for our guests. And have that Yggsburgh Bath-Pool of yours heated, Morgana and I have travelled long and require a good soak..."
Smon: Oscar winces as his codpiece begins to glow, and scurries out of the chapel.
Smon: OOC: ok, stopping there, thanks everyone.
Goonergeezer: thank you simon
chris107: Thanks guys. Nice one
Smon: OOC Reckon you handled that v diplomatically
chris107: Next game?
Goonergeezer: gnite all
Smon: Next Friday 6pm
Goonergeezer: next fri same time?
chris107: see you GG
Smon: GG

We just had a little tete-a-tete with the Countess Varuna!"genghisdon: "oh?"

5,Smon: Sweetrede sees it first, movement in the swamp off to the right of the trail.

Eliana: (
genghisdon: lol
chris107: @GM how far away is the figure?
7,Smon: Edward looks a lot better.

Smon rolls 1d100 and gets:

52,Smon: A large herd of sheep are passing across the road ahead...
Smon: /roll 1d4+1
Smon rolls 1d4+1 and gets:
4, (+1) = 5 genghisdon: we slow/halt
genghisdon: "shall we stop for a meal?"

6,chris107: @ Sheep, "Glad to hear it" "Is Father Tom a wise and kind man?"
Smon: The sheep looks blankly at Sweetrede, "Tom... man...2
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets:

60,chris107: "The old white beard who tends you"
Smon: "Tom...

Smon: (The Realm has followed the Great Church for 700 years though, so it's not like England AD 1600)
chris107: (Okay, just seeing who is on who's side
)Smon: Timeline page -http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/sunrisesunset.html
chris107: (It was the 'seems at one with nature' comment)

1,Smon: He beams at Morgana.
genghisdon: "now, calm yourself & answer why you seem worried.

Smon: (ooc you can try again
)genghisdon: (ask her yourself though chris!)
chris107: (I'm on the roof as we rattle along)
Goonergeezer: garrick @ varuna "how much further countess?
genghisdon: "ah, beautiful, though she drives some men mad"
Smon: Varuna: "It is getting very late... We will stay with Dame Lysana at Hareboro tonight. Then it's a short trip on to my castle tomorrow."
genghisdon: (lightning came back ok?)
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
2,genghisdon: "as you command"

2,Eliana checks her hands hoping she isn't fading away...

Smon: lol
genghisdon: Eli the elf
Eliana: I was assuming hellish creatures are subject to a similar doom!
Smon: Garrick, you note there are just a couple lights on the mansion ahead - in a chapel to right of the gates, and in what might be the kitchens. The gates to the courtyard are open, and something does not feel quite right here...
chris107: (Hope not
)genghisdon: M tells her, the whole attracted to those cared for & the rest...although she doesn;'t say how close she got with the bar maid
Eliana says (
Holy Lord james )Smon: The guards don't want to enter the mansion.

Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
4,Eliana: Hey!....

60,genghisdon: (if i wore my leather, i could pass for one)
chris107: (He's in Gygax's special thanks to between Dave Trampier and Tom Wham)
genghisdon: no doubt, he's an old timer
genghisdon: M moves closer, as she can't make the voices out
genghisdon: looks inside the gates
Smon: You hear men's voices, and what sounds like a shriek, but muffled - by a gag? Are you approaching the chapel door?
Smon: /roll 1d6
genghisdon: then slips over to the chapel (avoiding windows)
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
4,genghisdon: yes
genghisdon: actually, with that I will head back to collect the rest
4,genghisdon: son of a...
genghisdon: I head back to get the others
Smon: "There's someone at the door!" comes a voice from inside - not the first speaker, who had an aristocratic accent, this one is rough.
genghisdon: ARAGH
genghisdon: I kick it in
genghisdon rolls 1d6 and gets:
2,Smon: You would have a 1 in 6 w STR 18/91 >

genghisdon: scream sleep spell out if it opens
genghisdon: if not i scream "open up the door fools!"

Smon: roll init Morgana

genghisdon: I'll keep up the disarm attempts

Eliana

x100Goonergeezer: garrick: more debauchery on top of the slavery that this county aloows: garrick shakes his head in disbelief

Smon: GG
