Session 10 Aftermath 22-29th M4 96 YY

22/M4 8pm+

The group dines with the whole Hawkes clan. Sir Ulrich's Esquire Lars Frank also dines with the family, like you he is ranked above the common servants, and he keeps a watchful eye on you all, especially Flynn.  Alicia Hawkes wears a blue gown with sapphires, she engages Morganna in sparkling conversation, and also seems interested in Opa-Loca. Tabitha Kallent looks rather stunning in a figure-hugging white dinner dress, she sits opposite Garrick and spends much of the dinner gazing adoringly at him. The two Hawkes sons, Marcus and Barnaby don't say much, though Genevieve Hawkes regales her husband Marcus with the wonders of Elvish massage - he looks a little uncomfortable.  Madam Winifred Hawkes keeps the conversation on light and airy matters, avoiding anything uncomfortable.

After dinner Fr Corak retires to the Green Dragon Inn, while the rest of you are each allocated small but comfortable private rooms, one bed per chamber. Tabitha kisses Garrick good-night.

23/M4

The next morning after breakfast, Hawkes assembles you all except Fr Corak for your oath of service to the Hawkes clan - Corak having said he was 'just a mercenary' and refused to shake Sir Ulrich's hand. The oath swears you to serve loyally the Hawkes banner, and the House for which it stands.

23/4-29/4: The next week passes swiftly as most of you train daily - the Esquire Lars Frank oversees the training of the warriors among you, while the priests of the Grand Temple can train Fr Corak (Corak deduct 3.5gp maintenance).

Current XP tallies: any bonus for high stats not listed.
Duvader, Flynn, Garrick: 4060.
Morganna: 3790.
Corak: 3590
Opa-Loca: 3050

Let me know if you're levelling up, and we can roll your new hit die on Saturday.  Looks to me that Opa reaches 2nd, Corak reaches 3rd, Morganna still 1/1, Duvader to F2/T2, Flynn still R2, Garrick reaches 3rd.

Tabitha is also busy with her studies at the College of Yggsburgh, but steals every moment possible to be alone with Garrick for some 'chaste courting'. >:) Alicia Hawkes also seems to spend a lot of time with Morganna, learning more of those Elvish massage techniques...

During the week, Sir Ulrich informs you that Victoria Markle, the adult daughter of his friend Hektor Markle, President of the College of Yggsburgh, is missing; the Sheriff has been informed and kidnapping is suspected.

Ulrich: "Could be slavers - they like to steal our lovely Eastmark women! But unusual for them to strike within the walls. If you can track her down like you did those bandits and such, that'd be a fine thing. Hektor is offering three hundred gold for her safe return - and it wouldn't harm your reputation none, either. We think she vanished on the 20th - the Striker twins say she was supposed to meet them for late lunch at the Striker residence. Their father Oswald Striker is Treasurer of the Council and head of the Mercantile Bank, he's probably the wealthiest fellow in Yggsburgh."

Alicia Hawkes talks to Morgana about the missing Victoria:
"She's not really part of my social circle, although our fathers are friends - she's about six years older than me.  From what I know, Hektor spoils her terribly - she's not married, daddy says what she needs is a husband to put her in order!"
Alicia grins.
"She spends - spent - most of her time clothes shopping, and luncheon parties with her friends, including the Striker twins, Annabel and Ivy.  Personally I find them all a little vacuous..."

Sir Ulrich takes Garrick aside one evening for a glass of Easmoor whisky, and a little chat:

"I hear tell that Lochinvar Beechwood, the Lord Mayor, is going to be retiring after his term ends, four years from now, and plans to stand down from the Council. That means a new Mayor, and at least one open Council Seat. There's quite a few possible candidates, but I'm the best qualified.  And I have many good friends on the Council - Hektor Markle the College President, for instance. Bishop Victor Oldham, another.  Still, it's important that the Hawkes name is prominent the next few years - you catch my drift?"

GM: You complete your training on evening of the 29th Forunth; I suggest you formulate a plan for what you're going to do next.

9 comments:

  1. she has been missing for 9 days now, if a ransom demand has not been made yet then we must assume one of two possibilities, 1) she is dead and the best we can achieve is to retrieve her body for burial. 2)she has run away for some reason.

i think we should perhasp follow the striker twins to see if there is any suspicious behaviour, and to question the people in her social circle to see if there has been a boyfriend she has been keeping quiet about or if any of them have seen anything suspicious lately, we should also question her father to see if he has any enemies or the bank has foreclosed on anyone recently (it is possible the family has some secrets which it may want to keep these could prove invaluble to us).

feel free to add to ts if you can think of anything.

  2. Duvader will train too - Fighter 2 and somebody else paying is something he cannot resist.

  3. Charm Person can loosen tongues, or maybe "elven massage techniques" if that is too slow. Recall our previous bandits enjoyed keeping sex slaves, so if town fails us, some bandit hunting couldn't hurt

  4. If we can do it OOC while the others train, Morganna will visit Hawthorne Green (the village) to assure Stanley's family he is in good hands for now, and to give Mara some lovin'

Good idea - Morganna has time on her hands while the others train. Three days after your return from Hawfair, the priests at the Great Temple permit her to visit Stanley, who is being kept in a locked cell with a massive reinforced door. He seems in good spirits, though a little wan.

"They say they can heal me, through a daily ingestion - a potion of of powdered silver, belladona and wolvesbane. Apparently Sir Hawkes is paying for my treatment. He must be a very good and generous man!"

Morganna bids him farewell and travels north to Hawfair, arriving safely. She gives Stanley's family the news, and embraces a delighted Mara before retiring to the barmaid's room for an extended welcome...

  7. GM: The House of Hawkes will outit their Retainers (all PCs but Corak) with such equipment as they require, including plate mail emblazoned with the Hawkes crest, war horses, saddle & tack, etc. Such equipment remains the property of Sir Ulrich and must be returned should you leave his service. You can also stable the horses you took from the Highwaymen at the Hawkes estate.
