Session 6 Aftermath 5th M4, Self Training 6th-19th M4.

You have defeated a group of 14 brigands.  Ten are dead; the one Corak hit with a sling-stone is unconscious with a cracked skull.  You captured two lesser brigands and the brigand 'hedge mage' Fast Phil.
Freeing the two plump men tied to a tree - they thank you profusely, and tell you they are merchants of Yggsburgh.  They were kidnapped two days ago by the bandits, while out riding/hunting in the Deerwood.  Travis Woodstock, the third member of their party was sent back to Yggsburgh with a ransom demand for 1,000gp, to be delivered tonight at a large tree by the Urt river.

The battered and battle-weary adventurers scavenge the battlefield.  The surviving brigands identify their leaders as Black Brad, Apple Alice, Muscles the Half-Orc (all RIP); the magic-user's name is 'Fast Phil'.

Black Brad had +1 Ring Mail (leather with ring reinforcement) and a +1 Club
Apple Alice had a +1 Dagger, +2 vs Small creatures
Fast Phil's Spell Book holds the 1st level M-U spells Shocking Grasp, Shield, Detect Magic, & Message

Between them the brigands have 466gp in assorted jewelry and coin.  An even treasure split amongst the 6 adventurers present (including Aole, excluding Opa) gives 77.66gp each.

Aole looks happy:
"With this, and the reward money, I will be able to enrol at the College of Yggsburgh!  Thank you, my friends."

There's also lots of ratty leather armour, four small wooden shields, and cheap weapons - hand axes (5), spears (5) and shortswords (4), mostly.  Brad had a light x-bow with 9 bolts, Alice had a longsword, Muscles a battle-axe, Phil 2 daggers and a staff.

XP: The 5 PCs present get 910 XP plus any stat bonus.  Several of you have enough to level up after training.

Total XP Totals awarded sessions 1-6, bonus for high stats not applied.

Duvader, Flynn, Garrick: 2610.
Corak, Morganna: 2340.
Opa-Loca: 1700

Looks to me that Duvader (F/T) can train to level as Thief only (1250), Flynn (R) as Ranger (2250), Garrick (F) as Fighter (2000), Corak (C) as Cleric (1500) - and he's over half way to 3rd level!
Morganna (F/M-U) and Opa-Loca (F) don't have enough XP to level yet, although Morganna can take the time to study her new spell books at 1 spell per day, rolling % chance-to-know for each spell studied.

Genghisdon you should keep tally for Morganna of (a) spells in books (b) spells learnt (c) spells you can't learn due to failing INT roll and (d) any change in spell memorised - currently Charm Person.

Training takes 2 weeks, 1 week with a mentor.  For an M-U to acquire a new spell of their choice upon levelling they need access to research facilities such as an arcane library, and then make the % chance-to-know roll.  If they fail to learn a desired spell they can repeat the study process with a different spell.  Each attempt takes 2 weeks, 1 week with mentor.

UPDATE

GM: I'm going to roll a tracking chance (90%) for Flynn to see if he can get you back to Yggsburgh before the gate shuts for the night: 82% - just made it!

Flynn leads your weary and wounded band back west through the darkling woods and the farms east of Yggsburgh, the Rivergate Guards are just about to close the gate when you turn up with your captives and the heads of the brigand leaders.  You get charged a toll (1 sp per PC) and are directed to the City Gaol, where the Night Deputy Sheriff Davis Proctor assesses your new catch.

"Black Brad, eh?  Well done!  You fellows are getting quite a reputation as the brigand-hunters!  Have to set you after Gold Hal, eh?  Heh, heh!"  He chuckles wryly.

You are paid the following bounty:
Head of Black Brad - 200gp
Head of Apple Alice - 75gp
Head of Muscles the Half-Orc - 50gp
Fast Phil captured alive - 100gp
Total: 425gp.

The other three men you captured alive do not have bounties on them, but will be put on trial for brigandage and kidnapping.

The two merchants you rescued thank you profusely, you can return them to their families.

"If you ever want anything from us - anything - you only have to ask."

A couple days later they visit you at the Green Dragon with a gift of 100gp, that being 10% of the ransom demanded by Black Brad & co.

Total: 525gp/6 = 87.5gp for each of the 6 characters who took part in the rescue (all PCs but Opa, plus Aole), and the 5 of you get 100xp each.

Aole thanks you all:

"I have decided to use my money to enrol at the College for the year, as I always planned.  I will be forever in your debt.  If you ever need my assistance or healing, just ask me and I will do whatever I can."

She can either return the armour you gave her, or keep it so she still has it if you need to seek her assistance in future.  She has enough XP for C2 and will also be doing some weapons training!

You can take the next two weeks to rest and recover from your wounds, those of you with enough XP can advance 1 level, then we will start next session with you newly levelled up, you can roll your new hit die at the start of next game.

NB subsistence cost - 3.5gp/week per PC = 7gp total.  Should start session 7 on 20th of Forunth (M4) with PCs newly levelled up.

Aole enrols at the College of Yggsburgh for the start of the Summer Term, which runs 15th M4 through 30th M6.

  4. @ Corak: you should take the club (blunt?)

@ Smon: Do we pay for training? If so how much? If he has any left over Flynn will shop for banded/splinted mail

Flynn will Level if that ok with you smon, are we paying for training? <<

You can train without a mentor, taking 2 weeks, no charge but regular subsistence (3.5gp/week including Inn room). If you seek out a mentor you can train in 1 week, it is likely to cost you some money - but not 1500gp. :) Assuming not everyone can get a mentor, you're stuck for 2 weeks anyway, so you might as well self-train.

@ Smon: What is the AC of the +1 ringmail (if its lower than Flynns current elven chain he would like to take it and donate his current chain to another player) <<

Yes, Clerics can use clubs, and I would let Corak swap an existing WP for Club on levelling up, if desired.

    +1 ringmail is AC 6, move 12"
elf chain is AC 5 move 12", so it's superior.

It counts as non-metal armour and resizes to fit the wearer; eg Morgana or Opa could wear it if desired and retain their Elf surprise chance.

  7. The ringmail does give a +1 bonus to some saving throws, unlike the elf chain, though.

OK - NB you could give your Elf Chain to Opa-Loca if desired, it counts as non-metal armour for purposes of her Elf Surprise chances. It's big, but she can tuck it in! :) Thieves can wear it too, but this shirt is too large for Duvader to wear, he'd need a suit sized for gnomes/halflings.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Duvader would like the club too, he has a proficiency with that weapon. On the other hand he can only use leather armour or worse (disadvantage for multiclassed gnomes).

It is a pity that Aole has to leave us, but education is important, so I won't stop here. Duvader only paid for her normal clothes and those are a gift. She should remember to write her father for tuition and stipend for the following years, though. ;)

Duvader will self-train as well, he would not know where to ask for training in the thief class anyway.

Doesn't look like there's any objection to Morgana taking it.

That sounds like approximately twice the amount you should have.
    Session 6 (Black Brad) netted you 77.6+87.5 = 165.1gp.
    Previously Lord Ollie's gang netted you 57gp loot + 66.6gp bounty + 10gp from Widow Chatterly = 133.6gp.

You previously spent 90gp on bandmail & (I think) 15gp on a large shield as I recall, you did not chip in for Aole's gear. You should have spent around 10gp on living expenses, tolls etc, for an outgoing of around 115gp.

165.1+133.6-115 = +183.7gp since the start of the campaign.

  17. You can sell your old chainmail to Elite Arms for 15gp if desired.
