5:50pm 2013-9-11 Goonergeezer Has entered the room
Goonergeezer: hello
5:53pm 2013-9-11 chris107 Has entered the room
chris107: Evening

Goonergeezer: evening chris
chris107: What time we kicking off Ken?
Goonergeezer: not sure exactly, simon has his dinner at 6:45 so i reckon about 7:15 ish
chris107: Okay, I'll go grab a sandwich then.
Goonergeezer: ooo just remembered, kettle is on
6:02pm 2013-9-11 Amalric Has entered the room
Amalric: hello?
Goonergeezer: hiya
smon: hi all
smon: had dinner

Amalric: evening!
Goonergeezer: simpons eating dinner a bit early so we are starting a bit late
Goonergeezer: agh
Goonergeezer: ah
Amalric: ditto, kids still finishing theirs
smon: I'll make a cup of tea and be ready to start in a few mins
Goonergeezer: chris just went to make a snadwich
Goonergeezer: i'll have a quick asmoke then
smon: Went to make tea and remembered I had a nice bottle of Balvenie whisky in the cupboard

Amalric: lol
smon: Who are we waiting for?
chris107: Just me
Goonergeezer: im here
chris107: Start I'll take my lap top into the kitchen.
smon: OK, good to go.
smon: GM: After a long day you retire for the night... although Shade is kept busy...
smon: Drawing a discrete veil over Shade's nocturnal activities, next morning (18/10/97) you awaken. Shade is now Assassin-4.
smon: Anything you want to do?
chris107: Yeah!
smon: (I think Shade has only actually killed one thing, the Bugbear, since we resumed!)
smon: /roll 1d100
smon rolls 1d100 and gets:

17,smon: /roll 1d100
smon rolls 1d100 and gets:

67,Amalric: (quality, not quantity - unless it's the previous night we're talking about
)smon:

Goonergeezer: Garrick want to draw up a letter of introduction for Lana to Sir Ulrich, detailing the increased pirate trouble in kallent and the waters surrounding Yggsburgh, and suggesting contacting the varoius merchant families with an idea of them helping fund a crew to eradicate the piracy in our waters
chris107: C wants to make sure all at castle K are well.
smon: GM: After breakfast with his wife, Garrick meets with Lana Greenvale. A messenger from Midgrove reports it quiet. Lana: "My guess is Gold Hal was scouting the school. When he saw the St Trinia'sgirls taken here he probably decided to go elsewhere - doesn't men he'll not be back, though..."
chris107: especially one miss Starling...
smon: The Castle that had seemed half-empty with most of the guards and some of the serving-men gone is now a hive of activity, as Miss Maidstone and her mistresses organise classrooms for the girls; including the Great Hall.
smon: At breakfast Cassandra shyly invites Sir Cadwal to walk with her in the castle gardens, pretty well the first time they've been alone together.
chris107: C will be respectful but funny, trying to put her at her ease...
smon: Shade wakes in-between a couple of young naked lovelies, a third at the foot of the bed... Yawning they bolt upright as they realise they'll be late for class!
chris107: (Sorry hard to type between great gobfuls of door step sandwich!)
smon: Make a CHA check Cadwal

chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets:
3,Amalric: "Run along, my dears! Wouldn't want you be too tired for this evening..."
chris107:
smon: Cassie relaxes as Cadwal successfully manages to be quite amusing.
Cassie: "It's
a lovely sunny day, won't see too many more like this I
expect..."smon: Shade's girls giggle and dress hurriedly before rushing out to find their new classrooms.
smon: In the Earl's study, Sir Garrick consults with Lana over his letter. Lana nods. "It seems a good idea Sir Garrick, although it would bear more weight coming from you in person."
chris107: "There will be many other Summers Cassie, ones where you and I can truly enjoy each other." "Erm each others company I mean..."
smon: LOL
Amalric: Shade lies back, scratches his balls, and thinks he better get some brekkie, before he falls asleep again
smon: Cassie glances sidewise at Cadwal, and giggles. "You do say the funniest things, Cadwal."
smon: GM: Anything specific you want to do, or I can move ahead?
chris107: (I could almost hear Barbara Windsor saying that last line!
Amalric: move ahead!
Goonergeezer: move ahead
chris107: Onwards!
chris107: "Tally Ho Cassie! Keep it warm for me!"
smon: GM: Over the next few days things settle down somewhat. News from the south indicates that things are going well, most of the common folk of Herdley see the Kallent as liberators from their decadent overlords, and the Dunfalcon have stayed neutral vs Kallent, though they've been gobbling up bits of Herdley.
smon: Several Herdley castles are holding out, and the Earl of Kallent is in negotiation with Baron Melchet Arleigh, Beverly's father.
Goonergeezer: 0.
smon: A rather cryptic message from Sir Edward indicates that Sir Gregor Caskeham and the strange youth Stanley have been experimenting with the magic mirror in the Herdley vaults.
chris107: Odd
chris107: "Surely they would have no truck with such beastly enchantments?"
Goonergeezer: (possibly a chance to get Lisa and Cheryl back home)
chris107: "That spotty oik will be up to no good and Caskeham too I'll warrent."
smon: On the 24th a note arrives for Sir Garrick from the Earl: "Everything going splendidly, most of Herdley subdued and negotiations with Dunfalcon ongoing, but several Herdley castles still holding out. Garrick hold off on your training plans for now - don't want to upset the applecart, eh what?"
smon: You haven't seen very much of Dame Gertrude since Garrick ousted her from her seat, but as the end of the month approaches she reappears muttering about Samhain, the Feast of the Dead on the last day of Tenthmonth, when it's said the Devil's power is at its strongest. Gertrude: "If Varuna's diabolical kin seek to effect a rescue, it will be then! Mark my words!"
Goonergeezer: (bloody upper classes, afraid of arming and educating the masses, rich buggers want to keep them all ignorant and pliable)
chris107: Cadwal's slow brain puts this information together with that about Stanley and Caskeham...
smon: Garrick has a chance to meet with Lisa of Boston about drawing up a new law code for Kallent, she seems keen on the idea. "A lot of your law here is so primitive - trial by combat? No habeas corpus?"
chris107: Samhain, Mirror, Devil, Plotters.....
chris107: = Rescue?
Amalric: "Well there's something to look forward to..."
chris107: C brightens noticeably at the mention of trial by combat.
smon: Word arrives from Midgrove that a famous Sage, Brandis the Wise, has just taken up residence there, having apparently departed Herdley due to the upheavals of the war.
Goonergeezer: well i think on the night in question we need a personal guard on Varuna for the whole night
chris107: "Think we should keep Veruna close that night chaps."
chris107: "Mmmmm Sage, lovely with Wild Boar."
smon: Dame Gertrude nods in agreement with Garrick and Cadwal. "Yes! Her witch-power willbe at its peak. She must be tied to a cross of iron and scourged with silver braids!" Sir Hugh: "Steady on there Dame Gertrude..."
chris107: (C nods at Auntie Gertie's proposals)
Goonergeezer: "Maybe some sort of gag and restraints for the night, so she may bot attempt to cast any foul magiks
chris107: "Fine woman Auntie G, knows her witches."
smon: Dame Gertrude: "Don't worry Sir Garrick, I have made all necessary arrangements! Her restraints will be tightened considerably!"
chris107: (Hoping to get a bigger role in the Arras)
Goonergeezer: "and the gag, do not forget the gag"
Amalric: "And so say all of us"
chris107: "And the silver braids Auntie dearest."
smon: Dame Gertrude nods, clearly impressed (for once!) with Garrick, Cadwal and Shade: "Most certainly! Most certainly!" Sir Hugh sighs.
chris107: "C'mon Sir Hugh, I'm all for looking after the fair sex but this Veruna's wicked through and through. Likely put a cuss on us all given a chance. And what is caskeham up to with the callow youth?"
smon: Sir Hugh nods to Cadwal: "Lord knows..." GM: Moving on... 28/10/97: After several rainy days, the morning dawns bright, and Lady Helen suggests it would be a lovely chance to go riding in the Vale of Kallent and see the autumnal colours of the woods. Who's going with her?
chris107: (I thought Garrick would be all in favour of the Iron Cross given his recent political leanings
)chris107: C suggests to CS that it may be pleasant?...
Amalric: Shade volunteers to go with Lady Hel
smon: Cassandra agrees happily to Cadwal's suggestion. "You know I hate being cooped up in these stone walls! But Helen says it's too dangerous for me to stay at Starling manor... I'm afraid the place is going to rack and ruin." Helen nods to Shade's offer. "That would be excellent, Mr Shade! Perhaps we can discuss our ideas further... I hear you've been busy already, gathering intelligence from the St Trinia's girls!"
Goonergeezer: "My Lady is it wise? Taking into consideration our current political climate i would suggest that it would be best to stay within the confines of the walls"
smon: Helen: "I understand your view Sir Garrick, as Steward our welfare is your concern. But we'll have Sir Cadwal and Mr Shade with us, both puissant warriors!"
chris107: (C thinks unhappily about the cost of restoring Starling Manor from his rather thin purse
)smon: (well you did nab a chunk of Beverly's jewels, Cadwal!)
Amalric: "One can find useful information in the most unlikely of places", replies Shade diplomatically
chris107: "(All going for builing work by the sound of it. Not the prime horse flesh he was hoping for.)
Goonergeezer: "Helen i stringlt disapprove, however if you insist on this course of action then i must insist that i also accompany you on this Jaunt"
Amalric: "Gooseberry," mumbles Shade
chris107:

smon: Helen @Garrick: "You and Tabitha would be most welcome with us, Sir Garrick. I know she's dying to get out of the castle, too."
chris107: (OOC Who does that leave to guard the witch apart from Sir Hugh?)
smon: (Sir Hugh and the Master at Arms, Osseus Pyke, plus 12 men)
smon: >>"One can find useful information in the most unlikely of places", replies Shade diplomatically<< Lady Helen grins mischievously, but remains silent.
chris107: (Thanks, we wouldn't want Castle K to fall while we are out prommonading)
Goonergeezer: "I must admit thast the idea scares me, however i will not tell my tabby she cannot go if she wishes"
chris107: (OOC how far is Starling Manor from Castle K?)
chris107: I can visualize it on the map but unsure of distance.
smon: GM: Tabitha (still showing no signs of pregnancy!) agrees very happily to the expedition, and soon the party are riding out from Castle Kallent - Helen Kallent, Cassie Starling, Shade, Cadwal Fortescue, Garrick Kallent, Tabitha Kallent.
chris107: C will secure a lance to his saddle just in case, with a jaunty pennant so as not to alarm the ladies.
smon: It's 15 miles to Starling manor, 3 hours at a leisurely pace on horeseback, 1.5 hours pushing the horses.
Goonergeezer: "Ladies, please listen to me, should any problems arise i want you all to turn about immediatley and ride back to the castle, send no guards to look for us, the castles defence is more important"
chris107: "Perhaps we could go and inspect your home Cassie dearest?" Suggests Cadwal innocently.
smon: Helen: "Don't worry Cassandra, we have two brave knights and Mr Shade to protect us!"
Goonergeezer: Garrick also gets suirted up in his armour and rides out in full gear
Amalric: "Are you suggesting I am NOT brave, Lady Helen?"
smon: Helen: "I was thinking we could ride down to the Vale of Kallent - but yes we'd have time to swing by Starling Manor and be back by nightfall."
chris107: "I'm sure it would do Cassie's heart good to see her home again?"
smon: Helen grins over at Shade. "Not at all Mr Shade -merely that you are not a Knight - far too sensible I'm sure!" She spurs her mare forward.
smon: GM: You head down the steep castle track at a canter, Helen and Tabitha whooping in delight as the wind tousles their hair.
Amalric: "Quite. There is a certain instinct of self-preservation that knights choose to ignore, for some reason. All that chivalry nonsense one expects"
smon: As you ride, once you reach leveller terrain Tabitha moves closer to Garrick and speaks quietly: "My sister Helen seems to like Mr Shade, husband. It's most odd..." (Shade roll your Hear Noise check)
chris107: Cadwal will keep a fighter's eye out for any trouble that may lurk, but will otherwise take on the usual air of gentry at play.
Amalric rolls 1d100 and gets:

44,smon: >>Shade: There is a certain instinct of self-preservation that knights choose to ignore, for some reason. All that chivalry nonsense one expects"<< Helen sighs. "Yes, I fear I've lost more than one suitor that way... Did you hear about poor Sir Percival last year?"
Amalric: nope
smon: (Shade doesn't hear Tabitha)
Amalric: (all those galloping horses)
Goonergeezer: "my dearest Tabby, they both think alike, i am sure that if Mr Shade had been born to a more noteworthy family then he would be related to us by marriage"
Amalric: "No, I'm afraid not. Pray tell, what fate befell the Honourable Sir?"
smon: Tabitha's brow creases slightly as she considers Garrick's words. "Think alike... I suppose so..."
Goonergeezer: "Do not worry your pretty little head about it my dear"
smon: Tabitha sticks her tongue out playfully at Garrick. Helen leads you south through open fields towards the village of Nearby, Shade trotting alongside. Helen: "Sir Garrick would know more than I, but as he and Edward told it, Percy fell battling the Troll of Horsham Swamp. The three of them went hunting it in a drunken state on the day of Garrick's wedding - 'tis lucky only one died, though we thought Edward lost for awhile... and the troll's still out there, I hear."
chris107: "Troll?!
)chris107: "What wonderful sport that would make Cousin G!"
Amalric: "Trolls are vile creatures indeed, and not to be tackled in a drunken manner. Far too dangerous."
smon: You pass through Nearby after a couple miles, and Helen leads you east, into the beautiful autumnal woodlands of the central Vale of Kallent. You cross an old stone bridge over the Kallent water.
chris107: "And revenge for pore Perce of course...." He adds guiltily
Goonergeezer: "at the mention of the night garrick remain tight lipped and offers no opi8nion of the matter
smon: Helen looks sobre, she glances back at Garrick. "I should not have spoken of it. I've no wish to see more good men dead."
Amalric: "Bridges? Trolls? This sounds familiar..."
chris107:

chris107: Clip, clop...
smon: /roll 1d6
smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
2,smon: A little way past the bridge, you're heading down a narrow woodland track, Shade in the lead, when something ahead catches his attention - a deer carcass, hung high in an ash tree just right of the trail.
Amalric: "WHOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAA!" says Shade, throwing up his hand and drawing his horse to an immediate halt
chris107: C puts his horse between CS and any potential danger in a protective gesture.
Goonergeezer: "I suggest we give the breast a wide berth, at best it will be our countrymen starving and resorting to hunting to feed their families, at worst the food for a bunch of outlaws"
smon: GM: Your procession comes to a swift halt. You can see the deer - a large buck, its chest has been crushed in a way that seems odd. A sort of massive furrow, almost like a bird's beak, not a beast's maw.
Goonergeezer: breast= beast
smon: It's about 12' off the ground.
chris107: (You got breasts on the brain
)smon: Tabitha nods to Garrick.
smon:

Goonergeezer: (yes but there is no way i would suggest leaving them alone)
smon: Cadwal looks around - you're very close to the northern edge of the Copse Wood, a place to which Cadwal has always felt a strange affinity.
Amalric: "Something huge did this, we should be very alert - and perhaps get out of here quickly. Unless you knights feel you must hunt it down"
chris107: C will keep look out both above and around.
smon: Something is making the fine hairs on Cadwal's neck prickle.
Goonergeezer: "i suggest we ride on, we can always return without the ladies to investigate this further"
chris107: He makes sure his stirrups are tight and his lance to hand.
smon: Helen looks at the dead deer. "Yes, let's ride on..."
chris107: Though his visor is still up to give good visibility.
smon: /roll 1d6
smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
1,smon: /roll 1d6
smon rolls 1d6 and gets:
4,chris107: "Get the ladies to safety Cousin, I'll catch you up."
chris107: C will investigate.
smon: GM: Something big breaks cover from the trees to your left, heading towards you... a bear... no, it has a huge beak, red-rimmed eyes... an owlbear!
Goonergeezer: (Are we closer to the castle or the starling manor?)
chris107: C spurs his horse to charge
smon: It hoots, oddly high pitched, and charges towards Cadwal...
chris107: Lance leveled and braced.
chris107: "Tally Ho!"
smon: GM: Charging through the tree cover will be risky, DEX check or snarl your lance.
chris107: Can he wait 'till it breaks cover?
Amalric: Shade will try to skirt around it and then dismount from his horse to backstab
chris107: Meet it half way?
smon: (You're nearer the castle, ca 5 miles)
smon: GM: The trees grow right to the edge of the track, so if you wait I'll just go by init, no charging.
Goonergeezer: Garrick draws his sword and moves his horse inbetween the line of charge of the beast and the ladies
chris107: He'll charge then
smon: OK, make a DEX check Cadwal.
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets:
4,chris107:

Goonergeezer: "Ladies, if any of us shpould fall, or the beast starts making its way towards you, then ride the you are pursued by thre devil and get to safety"
smon: Cadwal ducks a low branch and brings his lance up aimed at the creature's breast...
smon: Garrick guards the ladies while Shade circles around.
smon: The beast is between you and the track back to Castle Kallent, BTW.

chris107: (So +4 to hit? +2 charge, +2 Strength?)
smon: Cadwal roll to hit, +2 yup
smon: (+4 total)
chris107 rolls 1d20+4 and gets:

smon: The lance strikes true - however it'd be a medium lance at best as you don't take a Destrier on a country ride, if you had one, so 2d6x2
chris107: no problem I'll re roll
chris107:

chris107 Rolls 2d6x2 and gets:
2,

smon: Next round everyone roll init
smon: Shade is sneaking up on it from behind
chris107: (5/26?
smon: yup
Amalric: d10?
smon: d6 init
Goonergeezer: Seeing his nephew scooped up into a bear-hug by the creature Garrick urges his horse forward into a charge at the beast sword drawn

Goonergeezer rolls 1d6 and gets:

chris107:
Goonergeezer: "Ladies flee while i keep the beast occupied"
Amalric: "Holy Shit!" exclaims Shade
Amalric: (am I still sneaking?)
smon: Shade, that wasn't very Silent of you...
Amalric: oops
Amalric: he exclaims under his breath?
smon: Cassie sees the horrific sight and swoons, Helen catching her before she topples from her horse.
Goonergeezer: but was it heard over the sound of screeching metal and a death wail from Cadwal?
smon: hm, I'll give 2 in 6 chance it didn't notice Shade
smon: /roll 1d6
chris107: (Well he got the heroic charge in he wanted

smon: I think you hit AC 6 only?
Amalric: hit?
smon: Assassin 1-4 hits AC 6 on a 15, so miss.
Amalric: yes, just checked. bugger!
smon: Garrick, you can pick your way through the trees and attack sans charge bonus, or charge and make a DEX check to avoid hitting something
Goonergeezer: is its back now towardas me then?
smon: yes, you can attack it from behind
Goonergeezer: i will just go for a normal attack without the charge

chris107:
smon: Cassie: "Cadwal! Noooo!" She sobs piteously, face ashen.
smon: Helen looks at Garrick, pale as a ghost. "I... I'm sorry, Cassie, Garrick, you were right..." Cassie dismounts and rushes forward to tend to Cadwal.
Amalric: Shade goes off to search through the immediate surroundings for the beast's lair
Goonergeezer: Garrick rushes to the mangled body of Cadwal and cradles him in his arms then looks up into Helens face but says nothing
chris107: It would seem that the good guys don't last

smon: GM: Cadwal you can make some dying words if you wish.

smon: /roll 1d100

Amalric: do we have any bags with us? or can we wrap up the saddle bags in cloaks?
Goonergeezer: Garrick rises from the body of cadwal and goes to his mount where he retrieves a blanket to wrap the body of cadwal in once cass has finished crying
smon: GM: You have saddlebags for lunch, and can take the coin, yes. Garrick cloaks Cadwal's body.
smon: Helen: "With the lack of patrols, it must have reached here unspotted... I.. I'm so sorry..."
Goonergeezer: he will secure the body to cadwals horse for transport home
smon: The dead owlbear is a grizzled, dark-feathered male, very old by the look of it. There's the remains of an old lance wound, not properly healed.
smon: Tabitha looks to Cassie, then speaks to Helen: "Sister, Sir Cadwal could have fallen in battle without us here - it's not your fault."
Amalric: "He was brave indeed, fearlessly charging the beast to protect you, and to see good prevail."
smon: Cassie: "I was just... We were just..." She looks up, face streaked with tears. "...getting to know each other..."
smon: Cassandra nods to Shade's words.
Goonergeezer: "the boy was a fool, but now he is a dead fool" barks garrick
smon: Cassandra cringes at Garrick's bark. Helen casts him a dark glance. "I was the fool - we should not have come here, as you said."
Goonergeezer: garrick grunts but says nothing else
Amalric: "Come now, we should head back immediately," says Shade, drawing a line under everything
smon: You all remount, treasure and body secured. Anyone taking the owlbear head for the mantelpiece?
Amalric: no, don't want to remind anyone of Cadwal's passing
Amalric: unless Garrick wants it
Goonergeezer: Garrick draws his 2 handed sword and procedes to behead the creature
smon: *crunch* the head rolls on the moss.
smon: (I'm going to break 15-20 mins to get boy to bed)
Goonergeezer: garrick wraps the head up in his cloak secures that to his horse and then mounts up and spurs his horse forward towards home
Amalric: (need to get my two off to bed also)
Goonergeezer: time for smoke break then
Amalric: (time for chris to roll his latest character
)chris107: No. 5 I think

Goonergeezer: well guess what helen is going to recieve as a prezzy on her wedding day?
chris107: Not sure but I bet it rhymes with Raid....
Goonergeezer: its gonna be a lovely mounted head for her fireplace

chris107:

chris107: They could hang it in Starling Manor
chris107: 16HP with a lance was pretty cool.
Goonergeezer: almost idenitcal to sir percy's run in with an ogre
smon: back
chris107: If it had been the heavy lance I was expecting I thought I had a good chance of skewering the thing first run and winning the glory!
chris107: And it was totally in character

smon:

chris107: And it was totally in character

chris107: And it was totally in character

chris107: And it was totally in character

smon: Chris do you want to roll your new PC now?
chris107: I'll just grab a glass of wine.
smon: Bad luck with the owlbear's rolls BTW, nasty buggers!
chris107: Yup
chris107: it's 4d6 isn't it?
chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets:
3,
4,
1,
6, = 14 chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets:
6,
4,
3,
1, = 14 chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets:
2,
6,
6,
2, = 16 smon: 13 13
smon: 14
chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets:
5,
2,
1,
2, = 10 smon: 9
chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets:
6,
1,
1,
1, = 9 smon: 8
Goonergeezer: eek
chris107 rolls 4d6 and gets:
3,
5,
5,
4, = 17 smon: 14
chris107: 13 13 14 9 8 14
smon: You can use those or If you don't like your rolls you can have 15 14 13 12 10 8 instead.
chris107: I'll stick with what I rolled thanks Simon.
smon: ok, pretty close anyway!
chris107: Just thinking through the options.
smon: +1 STR +1 CON if human
smon: (Sorry about killing Cadwal; Owlbears seem even worse than trolls!)
chris107: (He's be pleased to have gone the way he lived. Heroically!)
smon: (True!) GM: The survivors get back safely to Castle Kallent; the Countess, Cadwal's aunt, makes arrangements to inform his parents (well, parent and stepmother) and have the body returned to Fortescue Manor for burial.
smon: Cassndra and Helen both take the death hard, and the wedding planning that had been begun comes to an abrupt halt; even Sir Hugh's forthcoming nuptials to Beverly Arleigh go unmentioned.
smon: Tabitha Kallent, OTOH, is even more impressed by her beloved husband than before... "You saved us all - especially Shade! It would have eaten him in an instant if you hadn't struck it down..."
chris107: Titania of Copse Wood - Female Half Elf Ranger (Secret twin to Cadwal)
smon: lol
chris107: S: 13 IQ: 13 W: 14 D: 9 Co: 14 Ch: 8
chris107: S: 13 IQ: 13 W: 14 D: 9 Co: 14 Ch: 8
chris107: S: 13 IQ: 13 W: 14 D: 9 Co: 14 Ch: 8
chris107: S: 13 IQ: 13 W: 14 D: 9 Co: 14 Ch: 8
Goonergeezer: "i But put the beast out of its misery, Cadwal was the one who inflicted all the pain upon the creature
chris107: Alignment: Chaotic Good
smon: Can you work the Copse Wood owlbear's old lance wound and enmity for Cadwal in there?

chris107: (I'm sure I can
)smon: Thoughts on her link to the other PCs/Castle Kallent?
Amalric: Shade hopefully didn't hear Tabitha's latest comment either...
chris107: Titania had been hunting the great brute after wounding it with her lance (It killed her horse), she had tracked it for months as it fled into the deep forest.
chris107: Been a creature she was loathe to leave Copse Wood but upon seeing her quary kill her estranged brother (The mighty lord hadn't wanted to take the ugly one)
chris107: She followed the party back to Castle K.
Amalric: Ahem. Shade's CHA is 14 these days - unless you meant Garrick

chris107: Oops, been a solitary and shy creature she was etc..
smon: As a half-elf CHA 8 prob means a bit weird/unsettling rather than conventionally ugly.
chris107: (Poor Titi only has a Cha of 8 and that's mainly mystery...)
smon: Maybe her mother wanted to keep her?
chris107: (I don't want her rapped Simon, she's a dog!
)smon: BTW I have a pic for Sir Audley Fortescue, sirer of half-elf bastards.
Amalric: oh lets see! the cad!
chris107: (A twisted but goodly and shy creature)
chris107: Nice

smon: Sir Audley - http://sciencenordic.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/300x/knight.jpg
smon: He's on the Nobles page - http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/nobles.html
chris107: Haha is that Ollie Reed?
smon: At least Cadwal got a kind word from his dad that one time before he died.

smon: Pic was from an article about PTSD in medieval knights!
smon: (OK you can certainly be homely, although I think you exaggerate the likelihood of being 'Rapped' IMC

chris107: Where as Cadwal was all easy charm and good looks, his sister is a grimy and quiet individual.
chris107: Equiped more like the Elves she was raised among than the nobility her twin was.
smon: Do you want to do Titania's intro tonight?
chris107: Up to you Simon, will take me a little to equip her and such
Amalric: Shade makes a point to comfort and console Helen and Cassie over the following days
chris107: Maybe at Cadwal's funeral she can make a quiet and dignified entrance?
chris107: 4000XP = Ranger 2
smon: OK, Cadwal died 28/10, I'm thinking they'll want to bury Cadwal quickly to do it before Samhain on 31/10, since superstition has it that evil spirits can enter the unburied dead on that day.
chris107: So 18HP + 1D8+1?
smon: You start with 5,001 XP. Only first hit die is max.
smon: Shade make 2 CHA checks, (1) Helen (2) Cassandra
chris107: 5000XP = Ranger 3
chris107: so 9 +3d8+3
chris107 rolls 3d8+12 and gets:
5,
4,
4, (+12) = 25 Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets:
8,Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets:
6,Amalric: both made
smon: Both girls/ladies are very grateful for Shade's consoling words.
Amalric:
smon: Helen's usual mask of confident demeanour slips, as she asks Shade for reassurance over Cadwal's death. "I feel so responsible..."
smon: Cassandra meanwhile is facing the looming horror of all those suitors coming back - Thornstag for one. "At least Sir Gregor will marry Varuna... won't he?"
chris107: Leather Armour (Move 12"), Short Composite Bow, Spear and short Sword.
smon: (Ok on gear - nb you begin w max starting gold by class)
Amalric: "You cannot blame yourself. A ride in the countryside in these troubled times, who wouldn't want to? We would have found the owlbear ourselves, sooner or later, and I daresay brave Cadwal would have acted no differently. None of us would. It was just...bad luck."
chris107: So I can afford 24 arrows and still have a bit left over

Amalric: "The best we can do is to work hard for all he would have wanted, in his memory, for the good of all."
smon: Helen nods ruefully. "I dare say our encounter saved some poor peasant from being slaughtered by the beast."
Amalric: "More than one - several, and all their families. A village or two. Plus all the soldiers it would have taken to overcome the beast. A cast of thousands, I daresay. In that regard it was fortunate we found it as we did. If...not so fortunate for our lost friend."
Amalric: "But...chin up. We have much to do."
smon: Helen nods to Shade. "Cadwal was terribly, terribly fond of Cassandra. And I am too. She's suffered so much, you know... I know it was you brought her back from Odric's raiders last year. We must ensure she doesn' t suffer again. But who can we find to keep her safe? All the good men are married or gone..."
smon: "First she lost Father Sweetrede just after his return, now Cadwal..."
Amalric: Shade gulps, despite himself, thinking "Surely she doesn't mean me?!" But of course she doesn't.
smon: "It's too much for anyone to bear, *sigh*"
Amalric: (well if she's decided to bat for the other team, someone will be along in a moment...
)chris107: (Not much of a catch for anyone our Titania
)smon: (With CHA 8 I wouldn't give much for T's chances)
Goonergeezer: Ooc "she seems to be a curse on her male friends, perhaps we should introduce her to the dunfalcon king)
Amalric: "We must protect her from Sir Gregor, who I hope has moved on to other...plans. Is there no-one who might suit? I do not mean Thornstag, either."
smon: Helen: "We should try to think of someone... Even a commoner, if wealthy and of good standing, perhaps... but there are so few... *sigh*"
smon: "Thornstag... Thornstag scared me. He looked at me - at us - like a bird of prey regarding field-mice."
Amalric: "Are you suggesting...? A commoner....some money... ?" Shade can only think of himself
Amalric: (unless she means some well-to-do merchant)
smon: "I'm sure he's a great and powerful hero, as he says, but I think someone gentler... I could ask Dame Heather about her other suitors she suggested. Yaren Pyle and Vilkar, I think they were called. Both commoners though..."
Amalric: "It is worth a try. When all other avenues are closed to us, we must seek the best options left."
Amalric: (Shade might be the bastard offspring of some Yggsburgh/Dunfalcon noble himself
)smon: Helen nods. "Yaren is a well known Ranger of the eastern hills, I expect he has some gold stashed away. Vilkar I've not heard of - from Talworth I think, which is worrying."
smon: Helen nods, and pats Shade's hand gently. "Thank you Mr Shade, you've been most helpful."
Goonergeezer: garrick thinking on the same thing himself (possible suitors for cassy) sends word to Helen, suggesting perhaps if she were to matty into a notable Yggsburgh family, Howard Markle for instance, or Radley Proctor
Amalric: "I have my moments, though not many," he says modestly, with a smile
Goonergeezer: matty=marry
smon: GM: The next day passes quickly in preparation for Cadwal's funeral and for Samhain; Dame Gertrude has a large cross of forged and riveted iron forged by the castle smiths.
Goonergeezer: Markle senior is friendly with Sir Ulrich who in turn is friendly with us, with the markles on the same side too, its another powerful yggs fami,ly onside
smon: It's a fearsome looking thing over 6' high. Garrick meets with Helen to discuss his plans. She listens. "Howard Markle or Radley Proctor - which is of better character, would you say?"
chris107: (Should't that be a comer rather than a full stop between high and Garrick?
)Goonergeezer: Proctor is an ass and a deviant, the Markle boy i do not know, perhaps we should ask Ulrich's advice since he is friendly with the family
smon: Helen nods. "I feel we have many reasons to visit Yggsburgh. If we could persuade them to alliance, Kallent's position would be secure. Do you agree?"
chris107: (OOC would Titania's two handed spear count the usual two handed doubling of strength bonuses?)
smon: "Perhaps after the funeral, before the roads get too muddy, we could go together, with Cassandra? Sir Hugh could hold the castle in your absence, at least for a few days."
Goonergeezer: "I do Helen, i fear the poor lady Cassandra will not marry for love"
smon: "We'd need Shade, of course."
Goonergeezer: "Indeed a trip to Yggs might be just what my Tabby needs"
smon: Helen sighs, looking down. "Love... I have been privileged that my father never tried to force me to marriage. Perhaps one day I'll find a match such as yours and Tabitha's..." she smiles. "But as for Cassandra, well, she loved her mentor, Sweetrede. And she was growing to love Cadwal, I think. Perhaps she can learn to love Howard Markle, or whoever we find... Sir Ulrich has an unmarried son, I think?"
Goonergeezer: "Ah yes, Mr Shade, Helen you are being noticed with our friend a little too much, i know you have much business to discuss, but might that business be better dealt with in private, the fewer people that can draw a direct link between the two of you the better"
Amalric: (Oi, shut up!
)smon: Helen looks surprised. "Oh... " she blushes slightly. "I'm afraid I'm awfully bad at this spying game! You're quite right. I should... really... be more discrete, I suppose."
smon: "...Not that he's been terribly discrete. Three girls in his room! I'm amazed that Aunt Gertrude puts up with it."
Goonergeezer: "Barnaby, never met the lad, but anyone raised by Ulrich cannot be bad"
smon: Helen nods. "So there, my cousin Barnaby, and Howard Markle."
smon: "One of them should surely suit."
Goonergeezer: "then it is planned, we travel to yggs soon"
smon: Helen smiles. "Thank you Garrick."
smon: OOC Think I'll stop there for tonight?
Amalric: yep, fine with me
Goonergeezer: (k)
chris107: Cool
chris107: Thanks for the game guys.
Amalric: thanks again for the game. and RIP Cadwal!
Goonergeezer: Graham you want to split the cash 50/50? if so you take all the gems for ease and im happy to take the rest in cash?
smon: Cheers guys
Went better
than my 4e game yesterday! Amalric: works for me, Ken!
chris107: Oh dear what happened in the 4e game?
smon: It was 700gp in gems 1000gp cash right?
Amalric: they played 4e for starters
chris107: Haha

smon: Nothing bad in-game, but I Organise the Meetup - 42 players, 7 groups, the venue crammed us in like sardines
Amalric: yes, it was, Ken
Goonergeezer: yep, 850 each
chris107: Good turn out!
smon: (It wasn't all 4e - Pathfinder, Dungeon World... I do play Labyrinth Lord tabletop monthly too BTW!)
smon: (anyway I decided to quit organsing that Meetup after 9 months, too much stress w arguing with the pub)
smon: OK I'll add the money to your sheets.
chris107: Shame that's a fair old gang you'd drummed up.
smon: Yeah it's a big Meetup - London D&D Meetup, runs 5 days a week now, I timetable it & created the Beginners Tuesday which is the biggest part.
chris107: Cool

smon: Hopefully Tuesdays will continue ok, I did appoint 2 deputies.
Amalric: when are we playing next?
smon: Problem is the pub will only take bookings 4 weeks ahead & they want a minimum player number, won't let us on the balcony, etc
smon: next game Wed 7pm as usual
smon: Should be every Wednesday to Xmas afaik.
chris107: Nice one. See you all then.

Goonergeezer: or has that just been spent along the way?
smon: Did you give it to Tabby in a lovely necklace?

Goonergeezer: "yea call it that, i seem to remember i gave it to her to look after back in yggs, so its reasonable to think she had it made into a necklace to remember me by when i went missing
Amalric: a pearl necklace?

Amalric: right, i'm orf. see you next week, chaps
smon: bye A
Goonergeezer: perhaps thats why he hasnt got her pregnant yert?
