Smon: Just had the busiest day of my entire work year today, only remembered about this game an hour ago
Smon: Should be ok shortly
Goonergeezer: oops
6:32pm 2013-9-18 chris107 Has entered the room
Smon: Hi chris
chris107: Is this the real one?
Smon: Can you roll your M-U hp now pls
Smon: 2d4
Smon: yes
chris107: Sure 7+2d4
chris107 rolls 2d4+7 and gets: [4] 4, [3] 3, (+7) = 14
chris107:
Smon:
Goonergeezer: thast good hp
Smon: What's your default spell loadout?
chris107: (I can't stay alive with twice that and plate mail Ken so we'll see!)
chris107: Sleep, Charm Person, Invisibility.
Smon:
Smon: OK I've added Fabian to the blog
Goonergeezer: need some magical plate
chris107: Cheers
Smon: I'm thinking we'll move on to Garrick's arrival in Yggsburgh & meeting Fabian?
chris107: cool
Goonergeezer: by all means, if i can get there without any wandering rolls all the better
Smon: The Kallent ladies advise that the safest way to travel is via the public coaches as they attract less attention than a riding party.
Smon: You could also take Lana's barge up to Yggsburgh, slow but reasonably safe
Goonergeezer: since we want to introduce Lana to Ulrich then the barge seems best
Smon: GM: Ok, Lana already went up there to deliver your request for a combined marine patrol, she is back on 30/10, the day of Cadwal's funeral.
chris107: Poor Cadwal
Smon: At the funeral at the church in Holdcut, Cadwal's home village, a bleak rain falls. Among the mourners is a strange warrior woman of fey and weird aspect... she turns and leaves
Smon: The next day is Samhain, and everyone is alert for ghosts and ghoulies.
Smon: Festival of Samhain/All Saints Eve, when the Devil is at his strongest. Dame Gertrude has been reading the Maleus Malifacarium and has the witch Varuna chained to an iron cross the whole night and whipped with a blessed scourge. Obviously this works, since the night passes peacefully.
Smon: The next day preparations are made for Garrick and a small retinue to leave for Yggsburgh on Lana's barge.
Smon: Helen and Tabitha both want to come, plus Mr Shade; Sir Hugh can mind the castle if you're ok with that.
Goonergeezer: Hugh, the defence of the castle is in your hands, take good care of her
Smon: Sir Hugh nods determinedly. "Aye Garrick, I'll not let you down."
Smon: Helen: "We'll need a couple maids for the trip Sir Garrick - perhaps your two, Lisa and Cheryle? And Cassandra is bringing her own maid, Martha."
Goonergeezer: garrick arranges a small picnic for the ladies whilst on the boat, but stays very quiet and distant "Aye Lisa and Cheryl, perhaps they could entertain you with tales and songs of their homeland?"
chris107: Phone 1 min
Smon: Helen nods and smiles. "An excellent notion, to banish the gloom of this terrible weather!"
Smon: Trip Roster for Trip: Lana & 3 boat crew (Cpl Middens, Joseph, Brigs), Garrick, Shade, Tabitha, Helen, Cassandra Starling. Maids: Lisa, Cheryle, Cassandras fat maid Martha.
chris107: back
Smon: GM: You leave from the Midgrive dock on the morning of 2/11, heading slowly upstream. The 75 mile journey takes 3 placid days, pleasant though the autumn rain is dreary.
Smon: On afternoon of the third day you see the high walls of Yggsburgh ahead at the confluence of the Urt & Nemo - almost like coming home.
Smon: Lana docks the boat at the Rivergate, on the north side of town, and the watchmen check your business before allowing you into the city.
Smon: GM: Did you send a messenger ahead to let Sir Hawkes know you're coming?
Goonergeezer: Garrick did not, he seems very detached since the bugbear incident
Smon: It's an hour before dark on 5/11/97 as you disembark & head into the city. Are you taking Lana or leaving her at the boat with her crew?
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: [9] 9,
Goonergeezer: "Lana, how dfo you feel about coming to the Hawkes house again, or would you prefer to stay with your boat?"
Smon: Helen: "I took the liberty of sending a message on to let good Sir Hawkes know we're coming..."
Smon: Lana considers. "Sir Hawkes is... friendly... but I'd be a little uncomfortable in such fine company as all these ladies, Sir Garrick. I'll stay with the boat."
Goonergeezer: garrick grunts i
Goonergeezer: "that is fine Lana"
Smon: Lana nods. "We'll keep the boat ready for departure."
Goonergeezer: "thank you for the journey, i hope we will see each other again soon"
Smon: Tabitha smiles: "It will be good to see Yggsburgh again, and my friends here."
Goonergeezer: a rare smile crosses Garricks face momentarily "some good memories here My Tabby"
Smon: Tabitha grins impishly: "Very *fine* memories, dear husband!" Lana bids you farewell.. Your party (Garrick, Shade, Tabitha, Helen, Cassandra Starling. Maids: Lisa, Cheryle, Cassandras fat maid Martha) leave the docks and pass through the River Gate to Gatehouse Plaza, where you turn right, heading down to Scrivner Alley and the Hawkes estate.
Smon rolls 1d10 and gets: [2] 2,
Smon: The rain is still beating down, the ladies have Yggs-made umbrellas to complement their hooded cloaks and stay quite dry as you walk the cobbled streets.
Goonergeezer: Garrick lets the rain wash over him and leads the party to wards Hawkes mansion scanning the streets either side for any signs of trouble
Smon: Reaching the familiar expanse of the Hawkes estate, the groundsman goes to the main door; which is opened by Flo, Sir Ulrich's buxom downstairs maid. Flo: "Begging your pardon Sir Garrick, Sir Hawkes is at a meeting with the Mayor and Madam Hawkes is also out visiting. His son Barnaby is here to receive you."
Goonergeezer: "Very good Flo, And how are you, it has been so very long since we last met?"
Smon: Flo blushes, looking down. "I'm very well, Sir Garrick. Very well." She touches her stomach. Flo leads the party inside the Hawkes mansion, where young Barnaby Hawkes is in the drawing room, drinking Sir Ulrich's fine Tilean brandy with his friend Fabian Belvoir. Barnaby and Fabian have just been informed of the guests' arrival.
chris107: Fabian drawls a fashionable hello. Bowing with a flourish to the ladies
Smon: Barnaby is a slim, rather hawk-like fellow, red hair held back by a silver braid. He certainly looks the part of a budding mage.
Goonergeezer: "Greeting Barnaby, i understand your father is away on business at the moment, allow me to introduce you to my companions, some you already know" garrick introduces the members unknown to barnaby andf scans his face carefullt when he introduces Caasie
Smon: Barnaby puts down his brandy glass, standing with a slightly tipsy expression, but clearly impressed by the sight of so much feminine pulchritude (and Garrick). "Welcome, welcome all!"
chris107: Fabian is dark, slim and rather short. Dressed in the latest Yggs fashion. His jet black hair pulled back into a rakish knot.
Smon: Barnaby: "This fine chap is my good friend Fabian, a fellow Student of Magic at the Academy..."
chris107: "Well heeelllooo ladies..."
Goonergeezer: "Greetings Fabian, pleased to meet you"
Smon: Helen: "Good afternoon, cousin Barnaby. I've not seen you for some time - how you've grown!"
chris107: fab seems to notice the loutish fighter at last...
Smon: Suggest everybody make CHA checks
Goonergeezer: /roll d20
Goonergeezer rolls 1d20 and gets: [5] 5,
Goonergeezer:
chris107: "Sir Garrick? Wasit?"
Smon: Helen:
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets: [7] 7,
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: [7] 7,
Smon: Cassandra:
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: [10] 10,
chris107: 7/14 so pass
Goonergeezer: "Aye Sir Garrick, this is my Wife The Lady Tabitha" h3e then introduces those who he has not yet done
Smon: Everyone is quite charming However Barnaby seems if anything to have more eyes for his older cousin Helen than for Cassandra, who still has a wan expression and is wearing black mourning dress.
Smon: Barnaby: "Hello again Tabitha!"
Smon: brb kid playing up
chris107: "So Sir..... Garrick? A pleasant trip?"
chris107: "I hear you are something of a hero. Boshing the wicked and all that sort of stuff.."
chris107: Fab waves his fingers in a spell like gesture
Goonergeezer: "Alas no, i do what has to be done, we lost a true hero recently, my dear nephew Cadwal"
chris107: "Always fancied a bit of that myself.. (whispers ... Bet the ladies love it?)"
chris107: "Cadwel Fortescue?" "I think Daddy knows his daddy..."
Goonergeezer: "I only care what my Tabby thinks of me, as for the other ladies what they think opf me is immaterial"
Smon: Helen: "Cadwal died heroically, saving us from a terrible beast."
chris107: "Good chap!"
chris107: Sips a nother glass of Sir Ulric's expensive brandy
Smon: (be 5 mins getting dinner)
chris107: I'll grab a sandwich then
Goonergeezer: "So, young..... Fabian wasn't it? you fancy yourself as a swashbuckling type and hope to woo the ladies eh? Tell me do you come from a noble family?"
7:23pm 2013-9-18 Amalric Has entered the room
Smon: Hi Amalric!
Amalric: hello!
Amalric: sorry, wasn't meant to be here - should be down the pub watching the football
chris107: "Hardly a swashbuckler Sir Garrick, I haven't the shoulders for it" He looks ruefully at his short thin frame
Smon: You're in the drawing room of Sir Ulrich Hawkes in Yggsburgh.
chris107: Hi Graham
Amalric: but my wife was in London on business and hasn't made it home yet
Smon: Garrick, Shade, Tabitha, Helen, Cassandra Starling. Maids: Lisa, Cheryle, Cassandras fat maid Martha went up to Yggsburgh, you are being entertained by Hawkes' son Barnaby and his friend Fabian (chris' PC)
chris107: "Daddy is the Lord of South Pasture"
chris107: "The Belvoir's of South Pasture.."
Amalric: "How very nice," says Shade
chris107: Fab bows to the newcomer
chris107: "Sir....?"
Smon: Barnaby: "Sir Anthony Belvoir's estates are among the finest holdings in all Yggsburgh! Some brandy while we wait for father?"
Smon: Helen: "This is Mr Shade."
Smon: Helen: "Mr Shade is an expert at... finding things out."
chris107: "How......charming. Nice to meet you Mr. Shade."
Smon: The maid Flo (who seems to have a slight belly-bump) offers you each brandy.
Amalric: "Likewise"
chris107: "Perhaps you martial chaps could show me the ropes some time?"
Amalric: (what sort of creature is Fabian?)
chris107: He does another spell at monster type gesture..
Smon: Barnaby: "Flo, why don't you show the ladies to their rooms? They'll want to change out of their wet clothes." Flo nods.
chris107: Fabian is a slim dark haired lad of about 20. Dressed in the finest Yggs fashion.
Smon: Flo escorts the ladies out, leaving Garrick, Shade, Barnaby and Fabian.
Smon: Barnaby: "How are things down south? The war?"
Goonergeezer: the war drags on, as war always does, news comes in dribs and drabs, has your father told you the purpose of our visit?"
Smon: Barnaby nods. "Indeed, he's meeting with the Mayor right now. He should be home shortly. Mother is spending the evening with the Markles."
Smon: "Mrs Markle has been a little poorly, I believe."
Smon: GM: You chit-chat for half an hour or so, until Flo enters to announce Sir Ulrich's return. A moment later the florid-faced knight strides in, beaming at Garrick. "Welcome back, Garrick!" He seizes Garrick's hand in a firm handshake.
Goonergeezer: "Its the season no doubt, all this wet weather, and yourself Barnaby, ho ware you, i am suprised you have not taken a wife yet"
Smon: Barnaby: "No time, with the studies..."
chris107: Fab nods knowingly
Goonergeezer: "Ulrich, it is a pleasure to see you again"
chris107: "A trying regime"
Smon: Sir Ulrich: "And you likewise, my man! Good timing! I've just been meeting with the Mayor - we have a Council meeting in two days, when they will decide whether to make Alliance with Kallent!"
Goonergeezer: Garrick turns to barnaby "if it was not for yoyur fathjer i would have never been in the positoion i am today"
Smon: Ulrich pours himself a very large brandy.
Goonergeezer: "thAT IS GOOD NEWS INDEED ULRICH, kallent needs all the help it can muster if we wish to end the war soon"
Smon: Ulrich: "The issue is though, Redfort is aware of this, and feels threatened by the possibility of encirclement..."
Goonergeezer: "If we could somehow appease redfort and calm their worries"
Smon: "Some on the Council believe we should not antagonise Redfort, lest they ally with Talworth, bringing in Easmoor to a tripartite pact that could threaten the city..."
Smon: Ulrich nods. "Aye! My thinking exactly!"
Smon: Ulrich: "Redfort's man Tal Colton is in Yggsburgh, staying at the Outs Inn. We could meet with him?"
Smon: Ulrich scratches his chin. "But what could appease Redfort? I know they want the Kallent Marches back - that land you seized off them a century ago..."
Smon: Barnaby: "Or a beautiful Kallent girl as a bride for Baron Lyle Redfort, perchance?"
Smon: Barnaby looks over at Fabian and grins wickedly, swilling his brandy.
Goonergeezer: "it was my thinking also, but who? certainly not Helen, Maria is a possibility"
Amalric: "Let us meet with Redfort's man, see how...amenable he is..."
Smon: Ulrich: "Hmmm... Why not Helen?"
chris107: Fabian grins back obsequiosly
Smon: Hawkes nods. "I'll send a runner to the Outs, ask him to come here to discuss matters?"
Goonergeezer: "we can discuss but nothing can be definate until i confer with George, i am sure he would want a say in the matter?"
Smon: Ulrich nods, but smiles. "George, as you know, listens to me, Garrick. In fact he listens to rather too many people, too easily... but me most of all."
Goonergeezer: "Helen is a prize Ulrich, and i would not want her with any man, a fine lad like your son would be perfect, but again i cannot commit to anything until i speak with george
Smon: Ulrich pours himself another brandy. "Talking of which, his son Sir Edward is coming along well, eh? First saved by the White Lady, now the Conqueror of Herdley!"
chris107: "A wise fellow" Murmers Fab
Smon: Barnaby reddens at Garrick's suggestion that he marry Helen!
Goonergeezer: "Barnaby, i saw the two of you gave each other, dfid you think i would not notice" Garrick laughs at the last
Smon: Ulrich: "Helen and Barnaby? Nay, the Church discourages cousin marriage - and as you know, I am a fine Church-fearing man!"
chris107: Fab pulls the 'Cripes!' face silently to his pall Barnaby
Smon: Barnaby sighs. "Tis true, my mother Winifred is a Kallent by birth, and so..."
chris107: Fab does the 'Phew, wipes brow' face privatly to his pal
Goonergeezer: "then Lyle seems the best choice, perhaps you could send word to george and we may just have this war over by the years end"
Smon: Ulrich nods: "Don't worry son, plenty more fish in the sea!"
chris107: "Maybe the Starling Girl Barners?"
Goonergeezer: "Indeed, Maria is blossoming into a fine young woman" Garrick nudges Barnaby in the ribs at this
chris107: Teases Fabian
Smon: Ulrich: "We need to move fast, Garrick. Get the Redfort to agree to ally with us before the meeting in two days. Offer them Helen. I can square it with George later."
Smon: >>"Maybe the Starling Girl Barners?"<< Barnaby: "The blonde? Pretty, and well-stacked... but she seemed most morose."
chris107: (Fab looks on in awe at the power wielded by Sir Ulric.)
Goonergeezer: "then its agreed, Shade perhaps you should retire momentarily and speak with helen"
Smon: >>"Indeed, Maria is blossoming into a fine young woman"<< Barnaby: "er... also my cousin, Sir!"
chris107: "The Starling creature did look a little down in the dumps. Maybe a little time with you would cheer her up?"
Goonergeezer: "The ladt Cassandra is a fine woman, she is morose because she has seen some of the people she holds most dear killed recently"
Amalric: Shade nods and goes off to find Helen
chris107: "How gloomy! Poor woman"
Smon: Barnaby rubs his nose. "Eh.... Well... Flo, go heat up the Bathing Pool, would you? The ladies must be chilled after their journey."
Smon: Flo nods and departs, following Shade out.
Goonergeezer: "Ulrich i hope you can withstand the Glare of lady Gertrude, i fear her blood will boil at the outcome of tomnights meeting"
Smon: GM: With directions from Flo, Shade soon finds the door to Helen's guest room.
Smon: Ulrich grins. "Always happy to bring Gerty down a peg or two!"
Smon: Ulrich sobers. "Have to confess I never liked her much. She likes to hurt people weaker than her. Never a good trait."
Smon: Ulrich: "I don't know Helen well, but by all accounts she's a smart girl, and very loyal to Kallent. Her as the Baron Redfort's bride could advance our position greatly..."
Smon: Ulrich: "A River Alliance unbroken from Herdley to Yggs - not even Dunfalcon could threaten us then - or Talworth."
Smon: GM: Is Shade knocking on the door?
chris107: (Fab listens to this information carfuly)
Amalric: yes
Goonergeezer: (And with our friend shade as her advisor who knows what may come garrick thinks to himself)
Smon: GM: Shade knocks on the door, Helen's voice answers: "W-who is it?"
Amalric: (brb)
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: [34] [34] 34,
Smon: Ulrich nods. "It's decided then." He summons a manservant and bids him go at once to the Outs Inn and request the presence of Tal Colton.
Amalric: "It is...Mister Shade"
Smon: Helen: "Oh... come in."
Amalric: *Shade enters* "I have some...news for you". He let's her know of the crazy idea being bandied about concerning a political marriage
Smon: Inside Shade finds Helen Kallent alone, looking rather stunning in a skimpy white lace undershift as she inspects some dresses laid out on the bed.
Smon: Helen pales slightly, and sits on the bed, gesturing for Shade to sit beside her.
Smon: "This is Sir Ulrich's idea?"
Smon: Helen gulps: "We must move swiftly to nip this idea in the bud. My sister Maria... she's a little young, but much better suited. Being a powerful Baron's wife would be her dream come true."
Amalric: "I am afraid so," replies Shade, sitting beside her, trying hard not to stare
Smon: Helen blushes slightly at Shade's 'not' staring, but does not seem displeased - in fact it occurs to Shade she could easily have dressed before telling him to come in...
Amalric: "An excellent plan, a good fit indeed"
Amalric: (that has occurred to Shade. this time his gaze lingers)
Smon: Helen: "My father would never force me to.... but he does rely on Sir Hawkes awfully. We need to convince Sir Ulrich."
Smon: Helen looks up, sees Shade's lingering look. "*Mr* Shade.... you are a little... " she smiles.
Smon: "...presumptuous?"
Amalric: "Not at all, Lady Helen. Just...full of admiration. Appreciative, if you will"
Smon: Helen blushes, but her eyes grow slightly lidded and she leans forward slightly, almost as if she's about to kiss the young assassin.
Smon: "I..."
Smon: Downstairs, Sir Ulrich pours a third brandy. "That Shade feller is taking his time, what?"
Amalric: Shade leans closer...
Smon: Helen: "I... You know I also have a lot of appreciation for your... work..."
chris107: Fab gives Barnaby a knowing look
Amalric: Shade takes her face in his hands, stares deep into her eyes, and then kisses her full on the lips, long and soft
Smon: Barnaby is looking quite woozy now: "The pool should be steamed up nicely now - get em all in there, Flo too, eh daddy?!" Ulrich glances at Barnaby with slight disapproval.
Smon: Upstairs, Helen returns Shade's stair, and returns his kiss passionately. She moves forward to embrace him...
Goonergeezer: "Ulrich, i could not help notice Flo, Perhaps a short Holiday in kallent might be in order for her?"
Smon: (much passionate kissing and such follows)
Smon: Ulrich casts a wry eye at Garrick. "Eh? Oh, aye, yes indeed! Do her the world of good! Not too short - about three months, I'd say..."
chris107:
Smon: Barnaby nods: "And you could loan father one of your excellent maids while she's gone! I like the brown one especially!"
Smon: (Upstairs, Helen and Shade are on the bed messing up those nice dresses)
Amalric: (Shade returns her passion, whispering sweet epithets of admiration and desire in her ears)
Smon: Helen: "Oh, kiss me, kiss me..."
Amalric: "Oh Helen, how I have longed for you..."
Amalric: (and he does so, and on and on...)
Amalric: (brb!)
Goonergeezer: "Maids they might be, but they are also free women, if it is their wish to stay in your service then i shall not stop them"
Smon: Helen kisses Shade almost voraciously, and though she certainly isn't going to let him go 'all the way' and end up like Flo, she seems keen to go everywhere else!
Goonergeezer: "they both endured many hardships in the service of Varuna"
Smon: Barnaby nods: "Varuna - the Witch-Beast of Herdley?!" His eyes go wide, reminding Garrick that the young wizard is still only 19.
chris107: "oooooo"
Smon: Upstairs Helen strips off her white negligee, leaving only a loincloth on her slim body as she plucks at the buttons on Shade's tunic...
chris107: "We've heard of her, powerful in wicked magic and depraved beyond belief they say?"
Smon: Ulrich: "I suppose Shade is consoling Helen, if she's unhappy to marry..."
Goonergeezer: "Aye Fabian, some of the Instruments of sexual depravity required an engineer of immense skill and knolege to figure out"
chris107: "Reeeaaalllyyyyy.......?"
chris107: (Fabian's mind boggles)
Smon: Barnaby gasps: "Instruments?!" Flo comes back into the drawing room. "Sirs, the pool is heated. I'll fetch the ladies?"
chris107: "And talk of a mirror deep under Herdley?"
Goonergeezer: "There was one, we merely call it 'The Machine'" Garrick shudders at the thought
Smon: Ulrich casts Flo a dismissive glance. "Yes, yes. I'll not be joining you - Garrick and I need to wait for Mr Colton. Tell the ladies they can bathe."
Smon: Flo withdraws.
Smon: Barnaby's eyes are like saucers. "I'd like to see it..."
chris107: (Shudders delightfully)
chris107: "I have a quil and parchment Sir Garrick, perhaps you could....illustrate?"
Smon: Ulrich: "Barnaby, Fabian, you may join the ladies at the bath. Garrick and I will wait here to meet with Colton, if the fellow shows."
Amalric: Shade has his tunic and armor and whatever else off in no time (shades of Bruce Almighty )
Smon: Ulrich sighs. "Fabian, crusading against the Easterlings I saw... things... I doubt Miss Varuna had anything to compare."
chris107: "I am sure Sir Ulrich, your battle are legend. An inspiration to us young chaps."
chris107: battles
Goonergeezer: "How is that easterling slave, Gulaza i believe, i have not seen her this eve"
Smon: Shade and Helen are both stripped to the waist and have been getting hot and heavy on the bed for several minutes, when a knock comes on the door. "Lady Helen? The bath pool is heated and ready."
Smon: Ulrich: "Er... We had to dispose of her, Garrick. You know."
Smon: He grimaces. "Never a pleasant business. I hate Charms, myself."
Amalric: Shade freezes, says nothing and waits for Helen to speak
Goonergeezer: "It was for the best, i am sure"
Smon: Helen also freezes, startled, then replies: "Th-thank you."
Smon: Ulrich nods. "Morgana's charm had worn off..." he sighs.
Amalric: If there is no more sound from the door Shade continues where he left off, slowly, smiling gently
Smon: Ulrich looks over at Barnaby and Fabian. "You two, mark this. Don't use Charm lightly."
Smon: brb kid annoying!
chris107: "Your words as always carry wisdom Sir Ulrich."
Amalric: (just put mine to bed! no pub tonight, which is fine, bit tired anyway)
Smon: (had to give him his 3rd dinner - he's turning into a hobbit!)
chris107:
Smon: Ulrich nods at Fabian's words. "It's a lot better to kill someone clean, in battle. Charm makes them a tool, but it hurts the charmer as much as the charmee..."
chris107: "Indeed barnaby and I are the whitest of magicians Sir."
Smon: Upstairs, a tousled-haired Lady Helen lies on the bed and looks up at Shade, her new lover. "I... I better go join the others. Can you see Sir Ulrich, persuade him to match Redfort to Maria?"
Smon: Barnaby: "Well Fabian, shall we go entertain my cousins and Cassandra in the bath-pool?"
chris107: "That sounds just splendid. With your permission Sir Ulric?"
Smon: Ulrich nods. "Most certainly! Just don't do anything I wouldn't do, eh?!" he winks. (dunno what Garrick thinks of this given his wife will be in that pool...)
chris107:
Goonergeezer: "Just remeber lads, be respectful in front of my wife"
Smon: Upstairs, Helen inspects her clothes bag, brought up by Lisa earlier. "Hm... I know in Yggsburgh the custom is to bathe nude, but I don't think I can do that in mixed company..." she looks over at Shade. "I'll just put on a bathing suit...."
Smon: Barnaby nods. "Of course, Garrick! Tabby's like a sister to me *hic*!"
Smon: (if wife isn't back soon I better go get critter to bed)
Smon: (do you want to break earlyish tonight ca 10pm, or I could get Bill to bed now then do another 45-60 min after?)
chris107: Fine by me
Smon: Which?
chris107: Which ever works for you guys. I'm easy either way.
Smon: I'll get him to bed now then check back, prob ca 20 mins
chris107: Drinky time then
Goonergeezer: im easy

Smon: Can someone copy/paste and PM me it?
Amalric: Shade tells Helen he will see that Sir Ulrich recommends Maria to Redfort
Amalric: "Bathing suit? I guess it makes sense...as much as I admire your birthday suit, it would not be appropriate perhaps!"
Smon: Helen nods: "Th-thank you..." she grins at his next words. "Tabitha never minded going naked, but I am made of weaker stuff I fear..." She selects a two-piece swimsuit and turns away from Shade to don it, slipping out of her loinclotth.
Smon: Ken, can you copy/paste the whole log?
Amalric: Shade gets dressed himself, but he does admire Helen as she changes - when she's not looking, of course
Smon: Or are all these memories lost like tears in rain?
Amalric: "I would not call it weakness...more a matter of...personal taste"
Goonergeezer: ok, will do one now just in case
Smon: Helen puts on her blue swimsuit then wraps a towel round herself to go down to the bath pool.

Smon: bugger I've lost tonights log, looks like the chatroom crashed.

Smon: Helen puts on her blue swimsuit then wraps a towel round herself to go down to the bath pool.
Smon: (thx)
Amalric: "Perhaps best if I leave first - it would not be good form if we left like this, with you wearing but a towel"
Amalric: but he kisses her passionately once more before he leaves, then smiles from the door on his way out
Smon: Helen blushes slightly and smiles: "You're right!" GM: Barnaby and Fabian go to the bath pool, presumably stripped in Yggsburgh fashion, finding only Tabitha Kallent already present, enjoying the water with eyes closed: "Mmm..."
Smon: Shade quickly dresses and goes to join Ulrich and Garrick in the drawing room. Ulrich: "Tal should be here soon, if he's coming... ah, Mr Shade. You were gone awhile!"
chris107: "Lovely.....Water."
chris107: Says Fab languidly
Amalric: "My apologies, Sir Ulrich - the Lady Helen took the news hard. However..."
Amalric: "She did propose an alternative - her sister, Lady Maria, would be an excellent match for Redfort."
Smon: Tabitha opens her eyes. "Oh! Hello there! I saw Cassandra, she's just coming. You have a lovely pool Barnaby, I'd forgotten how good it is. We have one in Kallent now, but it's only little..."
9:14pm 2013-9-18 prespos Has entered the room
prespos: (hi : can i quietly watch?)
Smon: (hi prespos, we're just playingm you can lurk)
prespos: (thx)
Amalric: (evening again John!)
Amalric: (usual suspects
)
chris107: Hi again John
Smon: Ulrich frowns. "Helen has quit an independent streak! Not the best thing in a woman, eh Garrick?"
Goonergeezer: "oi have to say i prefer a woman with spirit and a mind of their own"
Smon: Downstaird. Barnaby nods to Tabitha: "Hullo cousin. How's old Garrick treating you?" He eases into the hot pool.
Smon: Ulrich grins: "A mind of her own, completely loyal to yours, eh Garrick?! You have quite a one in Tabitha!"
Smon: Ulrich: "Anyway, Maria Kallent... He swirls his brandy. Pretty enough for Baron Redfort, but young, and not strong willed or smart enough to control him, as Helen might."
Smon: "Would you concur, Garrick?"
Goonergeezer: "it was the thought of being reunited with Tabby that kept me alive during my time in Odric's Prison"
Smon: Ulrich nods.
Smon: "Winifred was like that, once... a little like that."
Smon: (his wife, Tabby's aunt)
Goonergeezer: "But Helen knows too much, she could unwittingly betray secrets, wheras Maria knows nothing of the Twists and turns of politics"
Smon: Ulrich nods. "Hmm... You make a fair point. You know Helen better than me, I think. She knows a lot, eh? I know she always fancied herself a smart one, giving advice to Sir George on his estates when she was twelve! But Gertrude kept her in check."
Amalric: Shade opens his mouth to defend Helen, but quickly thinks better of it. He likes the sound of Garrick's words
Goonergeezer: "plus if something should hapen to Edward and his son the next in line would be helen, maria however is far from succesion
Amalric: Shade's ears prick up at that, but he quickly tells himself that assassinating Helen's family is not that great a plan. Power will have to wait...
chris107:
Smon: Barnaby and Fabian have been relaxing in the pool with Tabitha a couple minutes when the door opens and in comes a very naked Cassandra Starling. She sees the men and blushes deeply! "Oh! I didn't expect..." her hands go over her nubile body.
chris107: Fab winks at Barnaby
Smon: Ulrich nods to Garrick. "An excellent point! Edward, then Helen... we don't want Redfort owning Kallent! That's settled then, it must be Maria."
Smon: Barnaby grins at Fabian and looks appreciatively over Cassie, Tabitha opens her eyes: "Oh, Cassie! C'mon in, water's lovely!" She looks over at Fabian & Barnaby as Cassie awkwardly clambers into the pool without using hands. Tabitha: "Are my husband and Sir Garrick coming?"
Amalric: (Sir Ulrich, shurely
)
Smon: (I've been trying to avoid mixing Garrick & Ulrich all night!) It's now about 9.30pm. Upstairs, the maid Flo enters and announces: "Tal Colton is here, masters."
chris107: "Sir Garrick and Sir Ulric are busy with matters of state my lady."
Smon: Tabitha looks disappointed, but nods.
Smon: Tabitha: "You don't know my friend Cassandra, do you? Cassie is the Dame of Little Aimswick now. I'm afraid she's had a hard couple of years..."
chris107: "I am sorry to hear of your loss Lady Starling, you have my deepest sympathies at what must be a very difficult time."
Smon: (CHA check Fab)
chris107 rolls 1d20 and gets:
20,
chris107: Oops
Smon: Cassie doesn't seem to hear him.
Amalric: (taken over the Shade mantle of crap rolls, eh?
)
Smon: Tabitha nods. "It's been very tough for her..."
chris107: Better than I expected. Thought that may have started the water works or hysterics!)
Smon: Cassie looks almost numb. The bathing room door opens again and Helen Kallent comes in, very late, she alone wearing a bathing costume. "Hello everyone.... I, er, had trouble finding a... a thing."
chris107: Fab will beg leave and leave the ladies to his friend Barnaby. (He has things to do and information to pass on)
Smon: GM: OK, Fabian can make his excuses and head upstairs.
Amalric: ("No trouble that I recall!" Shade would say, if he was present
)
chris107: (Did you get the PM Simon?)
Smon: Upstairs, Ulrich has Tal Colton wait a few minutes.
Smon: Checking PMs - I see a log from Ken & a PM from chris, yup.
Smon: Ulrich: "OK, Flo, show him in."
Goonergeezer: (i gotta shoot off, will try to get back in a minute)
Smon: A slightly damp and tousled Fabian arrives back in the drawing room just in time to see Tal Colton enter ahead of him - a tall, lithe, broad-shouldered fellow in sombre but expensive hose, a sword at his belt, blond beard neatly trimmed.
Smon: Shade you can make a WIS check
Amalric rolls 1d20 and gets:
5,
chris107: Fab nods respectfully
Amalric: yes! needed 8 or less
chris107:
Smon: Shade can tell that this Colton fellow is in a similar line of work to himself, that he is a capable individual, and that while maintaining an air of calm he is tense, as if he has entered the lion's den...
Smon: Ulrich: "Ah, Mr Colton! So good of you to come! Brandy?" Colton: "Good evening, Sir Ulrich. Yes, thank you." He takes a brandy from the now heavily depleted decanter and sips moderately.
Smon: Ulrich: "Have you met my associates?" Tal surveys the room. "Sir Garrick I've met. Shade and Fabian I know less well..." He smiles.
Smon: Colton looks over at Shade and nods in what might be a sign of mutual recognition.
Amalric: "Good evening, Mr Colton. Please, have a large drink - I have heard Sir Ulrich's brandy is a particularly fine vintage, and we are all friends here."
Amalric: Shade nods as he says this, to confirm the recognition
Smon: Colton smiles, not very warmly. "Thank you. I prefer to drink in... moderation."
Amalric: Harder to hide the poison, thinks Shade to himself
Smon: Ulrich: "I've invited you here on this dreary night because the Kallent have a proposition for you. As you know, the ambitions of Dunfalcon threaten all the Riverlands. Talworth send against us slavers, brigands, pirates...."
chris107: (Fabian takes mental notes)
Smon: (Pirates kidnapped Lady Octavia deRedfort M9 95 YY from her own pleasure barge - the pirate chief Gold Hal - and she was held for a full year, displayed by Hal as his ship's figurehead, until her eventual daring rescue by the dashing swordsman Andarc of Yggsburgh (11/9/96).
Smon: Tal grimaces slightly, his failure to rescue Octavia being a well known sore point.
Smon: Ulrich: "Yggs and Redfort have had their differences in the past; Redfort and Kallent too. But it seems to us that it's high time to put the past behind us. Think of the Riverlands, strong and united from Greater Kallent through Redfort to Yggsburgh - beyond, perhaps..."
Smon: Tal: "An admirable notion" he says, coolly.
Smon: Ulrich: "We have a proposal. I hope your Lord will like it..."
Smon: (Ken are you back?)
Smon: (guess not)
chris107:
Amalric:
Smon: Ulrich: "The Kallent propose that their most lovely offspring, Maria, wed the Baron Lyle Redfort, sealing an alliance between your two great lands, and that both join with Yggsburgh - the Council will approve. Together we will be strong enough that Dunfalcon, Talworth, Easmoor can no longer threaten us."
Smon: Tal sips his drink. "Very nice, Sir Ulrich, very nice. I suppose the Dunfalcon amy facing off on Kallent's southern border might have something to do with this?"
Amalric: (thats for Ken to answer)
Smon: Ulrich shrugs. "Mr Shade, you're well acquianted with the hills and valleys of Kallent. How would you characterise the strategic situation?"
chris107: (Yup Fabian's just happy to be able to listen in)
Smon: (don't much like 'playing with myself' for too long)
Amalric: (can't blame you for that!)
chris107: (Shall we give Ken 5 minutes then?)
Smon: (Shade has just been getting acquainted with some Kallent hills & valleys, y'see)
chris107: (he's the political mover and shaker after all)
chris107:
Amalric: "Dunfalcon is hardly facing off. Last I saw we had a firm grasp all across the land, and had routed our foes. This is more of a proposal for the future, for the greater good."
Amalric: (LOL, he has! And I hope that makes sense, Ken is the authority on that)
Amalric: "For the benefit of us all."
Smon: Tal rubs his beard. "Routed the Herdley, perhaps.... Kallent is fortunate that Redfort would not take advantage of your denuded defenses to take back our rightful lands that you stole from us after the Yggsburgh war."
Smon: Ulrich waves a hand airily. "Heaths and moors, Tal. You know that land is near worthless."
Smon: Colton shrugs. "Still, the Redfort have a sentimental attachment to those heaths and moors. And I hear Flowerbrook is lovely in the spring."
Amalric: Shade puts his hand on the hilt of his sword. if this fellow is nervous, perhaps that'll scare the shit out of him
chris107: (C'mon Ken or the Marches are going home to Redfort)
Smon: Tal notes Shade's gesture. Ulrich: "You'll take our proposal to Baron Redfort?"
Smon: Tal shrugs. "Of course. But I doubt you'll get an answer before that important council meeting in two days... Baron Lyle will have to think hard whether the fourth-born daughter of Kallent is such a prize."
chris107: (Ouch!)
Smon: Ulrich's expression darkens.
Amalric: (I take it we're not in much of a position to argue?)
Smon: (I think this might be a good point to quit, and you & Ken will have a chance to think it you can turn it around for next week?)
chris107: (And in the wrong company for Charm Person)
Smon: (eg you may decide to offer him Helen after all!)
chris107: Sure thing Simon. Though I'm only 50/50 if I'll be back in time for next weeks game.
Smon: (Tal almost certainly has an elfstone)
Amalric: (Helen is NOT an option
)
chris107: (ah yes the bane of playing a magic user
)
Amalric: But yes, good time to stop for me
chris107: (Poor Sweetreed fell foul of those bloody stones)
Smon: Hope you can make it chris. Amalric I agree, ooc I wouldn't want to see her married off to Baron Redfort either.
chris107: Thanks for the game. Hope to make it next week too.
Smon: Cheers chris, after a shaky start I enjoyed it too.
Smon: Or are all these memories lost like tears in rain?

Amalric: Shade gets dressed himself, but he does admire Helen as she changes - when she's not looking, of course
Amalric: "I would not call it weakness...more a matter of...personal taste"
Goonergeezer: ok, will do one now just in case
Smon: Helen puts on her blue swimsuit then wraps a towel round herself to go down to the bath pool.

OOC General thoughts and ideas.
ReplyDeleteHas the reward for Gold Hal and Bloody Rosie been increased since the capture and escape of Rosie?
How can we lure the pirates to us or at least make them show themselves, Either by placing trade ship on the Nemo with valuable cargo and getting selected crew to accidentally drop hints while drunk in the drinking establishments to Yggs or seeing if we could track down Andarc and using him as bait? (surely Rosie & Hal must want revenge for his earlier capture of Rosie).
We sent Lana to Yggs to see Ulrich and see if we could get some backing, financial or other to get a crew + equipment for her boat to hunt down the Pirates on the Nemo, where are we with this at the moment, or is this one of the items to be discussed by the Council of Eight?
Getting the Council of Eight onside.
Does Ulrich have any sway with any of the members?
Gib Alworth (Master of Merchants)& Chancellor Bennet Cornwainer (Master of Mint & Revenue) must want to see an end to the piracy on the Nemo for the increase safety of goods travelling on the river.
Cornwainer's wife is related (not sure what relation though) to our very own Bev Arleigh, might we have a little bird who can whisper to her relation to get her husband onside?
Lord Mayor of Yggs Lochinar Beechwood (Ranger) We could appeal to his good nature to vote to help Kallent or at least the setting up of the River Police.
Candice-Wright is good friends with Helen and the Striker twins, might we be able to use that friendship to get sympathy with Oswald Striker (Banker in Yggs). Perhaps one of her Famous Pool Parties with all those who may be swayed invited?
Father Thaddeus of Kallent is good friends with Father Jadis of Redfort, perhaps he can speak with Redfort on our behalf, an extra voice in Redfort promoting the possible marriage to Maria surely cannot hurt.
If the possible marriage idea breaks down what do we know of Eastmoor? although a marriage to them is really not a good idea it does remain a possibility, Even the thought of such an alliance would scare the crap out of Redfort and possibly Yggs as well, enough to make them agree to our ideas and proposals?
P.S. What do we know of the Belvoir Family? any unmarried sons with a view to Maria or even Helen?
ReplyDeleteOOC: Sir Anthony Belvoir is listed as Chaotic Good in the Yggsburgh book and they have a very large wealthy estate, around 10 square miles of very good farmland immediately south of Yggsburgh plus valuable quartz mines at the west end of Serpent Ridge. Chris can detail the family further as desired. http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/prominent-families-of-yggsburgh-and.html
