Hail Smon, and well met!
Smon Has entered the room
Smon: Hi Gooner
Smon: Just listening to a podcast about the Reaper Bones Kickstarter I pledged for last week -http://ec.libsyn.com/p/1/9/3/193df1923ef576d1/Nerdherders_Exclusive_Reaper_Miniatures_Kickstarter_Interview.mp3?d13a76d516d9dec20c3d276ce028ed5089ab1ce3dae902ea1d01cc8137d9cf5515de&c_id=4879938
Smon: Got about 250 minis coming in March!
Goonergeezer: thats a lot of painting to be done !!
Smon:  Yeah - I'm thinking I'd need to paint in advance of particular games where I think I'd need them.
Goonergeezer: how much did you pledge to get that many figures?
Smon: On the bright side I have a nice new shed set up for minis painting.
Smon: I pledged Vampire level $100 +$25 postage, plus another $50 for options.
Goonergeezer: i just started painting mini's again, i have got my 3 children in to d&d
Smon: The Bones minis are nice -http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones
Smon: I tend to get them as prepaints -http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/LegendaryEncounters
Smon: For lead minis I like em-4 minis, very good value; they do both prepaints & unpainted -http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Infantry.html
Smon:http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Copy_of_SCI_FI.html
Smon:http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Eflsera_Fantasy_Characters.html
Goonergeezer: do you happen to know how much shipping is?
Smon: Reaper do free worldwide shipping if you order £35 of minis
Smon: Although last time Customs & Excise caught the shipment and I got charged VAT, plus £8 handling fee by the post office
Goonergeezer: ok not too bad, i will have to wait for christmas tho :-(
Smon: em-4 charge ca 15% shipping as I recall. If you want to make a small inexpensive order of pewter minis they're #1 IMO.
Smon: The Barbarians I linked above are £1.28, are pre-primed, and look as good as minis you'd pay £4 for in a shop.
Goonergeezer: i will give them both a good view tomorrow
Goonergeezer: i have been buying mine from Ral partha
Smon: They also do 21p plastic orcs & dwarves which are ok to practice painting on http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Copy_of_Fantasy.html
Goonergeezer: £7,70 for 50 minis!!
Smon: Yep
Smon: The dwarves are probably the nicer minis, though people can get the orcs looking good; very handy for hordes of mooks.
Goonergeezer: i can see myself spending some cash i dont have lol
Smon: LOL
Smon: In-game, using the DMG pg 49 table, Garrick has a 6 in 10 chance of getting lost:
Smon: /roll 1d10
Smon rolls 1d10 and gets: 3,
Smon: Yep
Smon: Even more lost in the swamp than before
Goonergeezer: there are 2 other people with me, its possible that they dont get lost.............( clutching here )
Smon: On the bright side you have a 130% chance of evading the troll...
Smon: /roll 1d10
Smon rolls 1d10 and gets: 10,
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: 64,
Goonergeezer: (thayts the important part, that and finding edwards sword)
Smon: GM: Your horses splashing in the mire, you flee into the night, the horrible sounds from the troll behind you fading into the night...
Goonergeezer: garrick turns to Angus and the girl " are you both alright? Poor Edward and Percy, we must take news of their passing to my father in law"
Smon: After about 15 minutes you're confident you've evaded the troll. Behind you the girl, Rose, has little control of her own horse, but the animal is happy to follow your lead. Behind Rose, Angus is slumped in the saddle of his mount, badly wounded.
Smon: Rose, still nude, shivers in the cool night air, moonlight gleaming on her naked skin. Rose: "I... yes... thank you for rescuing me. I am sorry about the other knights..."
Smon: Angus grunts wearily.
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 6,
Goonergeezer: Garrick will halt the horses and go to check on the condition of angus and to secure a cloak around Rosie
Goonergeezer: garrick" there there my girl, everything will be ok"
Smon: The horses are nervous as Garrick halts, and wraps his cloak around Rose - she smiles gratefully. (lucky roll) Ahead, Garrick spots something big and dark watching you from the bullrushes.
Smon: Two eyes gleam redly in the dark, wide-spaced, about 4' off the ground.
Goonergeezer: garrick slowly remonts and turns the horses away from the unknown beast
Smon: /roll 1d4+1
Smon rolls 1d4+1 and gets: 4, (+1) = 5
Smon: Dark forms, about 10' long, emerge from the rushes ahead - a family of giant otters, 5 in number. They regard you curiously.
Smon: You back your horse away.
Goonergeezer: breathing a sigh of relief garrick carries on but gives the otters a wide berth
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 3,
Goonergeezer: can we only ride single fil or can we go 2 abreast
Smon: Mostly single file. You splash on through the Horsham swamp. Dawn is beginning to lighten the sky when through the trees ahead you see the great grey ribbon of the Nemo river, snaking across the land - you have passed right through the swamp to the river's edge.
Smon: You've been in the swamp perhaps 8 hours, and are tired, muddy and cold.
Goonergeezer: cursing the wrong diresction garrick starts to follow the river back to the village
Smon: In the distance, on the far side of the river, you see a few lights twinkling - a village of some sort perhaps, maybe half a mile away.
Smon: GM: You turn right/east, and start to head upriver back towards Horsham.
Goonergeezer: we follow the river upstream untill we find a bridge or a spot to ford the river
Goonergeezer: (if upstream is the way to horsham)
Smon: The river is around 1000' wide here, no fords or bridges.
Smon: yes
Smon: /roll 1d10
Smon rolls 1d10 and gets: 4,
Smon: Dawn comes up red.
Smon: /roll 1d8
Smon rolls 1d8 and gets: 8,
Goonergeezer: garrick " a red dawn, this day blood has been spilt, a bad omen angus"
Smon: Angus grimaces. The morning sun dries and cakes the mud on you. You've travelled some five miles on a winding route upstream, when rushes and mire give way to meadows, and you see the smokes of Horsham ahead.
Smon: Rose: "My home!"
Goonergeezer: garrick will lead the horses into a trot to get there quicker
Smon: You cross the brook where Rose was attacked, and reach the village late that morning, to be greeted by a throng of excited villagers. The Reeve steps forward. "You've saved my daughter! How can I ever repay you?"
Goonergeezer: " do you have fresh horses here we must be back to the castle immediatly"
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: 96,
Smon: Garrick catches sight of several vultures on the rooftops, seeming to be watching him.
Goonergeezer: garrick" angus, can you ride hard, or shall you stay here?"
Smon: Angus: "I can go no further..." - villagers help him from his mount and rush him to the local chapel, to be tended to.
Smon: Rose's mother and aunt likewise help her down.
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: 06,
Smon: They usher her away.
Goonergeezer: garrick" i must leave you now, everyone needs to stay close to home today, the beast is not slain and may return"
Smon: Reeve Otto: "You look exhausted too, sir knight... Not slain? *ulp*" - he looks nervous.
Smon: "Err... the other knights?"
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: 23,
Goonergeezer: garrick "i go to the castle we shall return before long, you have my word my good man"
Smon: Garrick, roll 1d20 =/under CON or you are fatigued, -2 all rolls.
Goonergeezer: "the other knight fell, both my brother-in-law and a man i counted a good friend and ally"
Smon: Otto nods to Garrick. "Yes Sir, we will. Thank you again for saving her."
Goonergeezer rolls 1d20 and gets: 1,
Goonergeezer: (nice to see my high rolling has continued from the last session)
Smon: Garrick feels quite vigorous today!  Otto's face falls. "Two knights dead? Alas and alack!"
Smon: GM: A boy brings Otto's own horse, saddled - he hands Garrick the reins.
Smon: You leave Horsham and ride alone for Castle Kallent.
Goonergeezer: changing mounts garrick turns to the crowd "I Sir Garrick who returned your Rosie will return and rid you of this monstority"
Smon: "Hail Garrick!" - there is a ragged cheer from the crowd as you leave Horsham. Four miles brings you to the large village of Midgrove at noon; known for its coaching inn and for St Trinia's Finishing School for Young Ladies. A dozen or so late-teen girls taking a lunchtime stroll stop to watch as you ride into town.
Goonergeezer: and then onto castle kallent
Smon: One blonde girl bites into an apple, regarding you curiously. "A knight! Say, Masie! A knight from the castle!"
Smon: A sturdy matron in Headmistress' garb watches from the window.
Goonergeezer: wishig he had more time to spend garrick urges his mount onwards to the castle
Smon: You ride past and take the Kallent turn off the Dunfalcon Pike, four more miles on a fresh horse brings you to the Castle gates by 1pm.
Smon: Your approach was spotted, and a crowd of Kallent, Hawkes and other guests has gathered in the courtyard as you ride in.
Smon: Tabitha comes forward, still in her wedding dress. "Garrick! You're alive!" she rushes forward.
Smon: Clearly she has not slept.
Smon: Earl Kallent is there, looking very gaunt. Sir George, the heir, also moves forward.
Goonergeezer: once into the courtyard garrick dismounts and turns to the crowd "i have returned, yes my love i am unharmed, we need to speak to you father and ulrich, in private if we may"
Smon: Sir Edward's wife Catherine looks pale and worried. "Edward? Where is he? Why are you alone?"
Smon: Sir George looks grim. "Aye, this is men's business. Garrick, Ulrich, with me."
Goonergeezer: "my lady, i would speak with you once i have spoken with your father"
Goonergeezer: garrick follows the two knights
Smon: Helen Kallent puts a steadying hand on Catherine's shoulder. Sir George leads you and Sir Ulrich Hawkes inside, to a private room, and shuts the door. "Well?"
Goonergeezer: garrick " we tracked the beast into the swamps where we lost its trail, we continued to search when we were suprised by a great beast.........
Goonergeezer: we fought it with all our might, but the beasts wounds began to heal whilst we were still fighting it........
Smon: Ulrich: "A Troll? My god!"
Goonergeezer: Sir Edward and percifal both fell, his squire angus lies in horsham village with grave wounds....
Smon: Sir George looks ashen-faced.
Goonergeezer: we rescued the village girl and left her with family
Smon: George: "This is my fault - I called on them..."
Smon: George: "I sent my son to his death."
Smon: He sits, heavily.
Smon: George: "I should have sent the guard - as Angus said... my God..."
Smon: Ulrich puts a hand on George's shoulder. "Don't blame yourself, man. No one could have foreseen this."
Goonergeezer: "my lord i cannot express my sympathy for you
Smon: Sir Ulrich turns to Garrick. "Edwad and Percifal - you saw them die?"
Smon: George nods slightly at the words of sympathy, in shock.
Goonergeezer: "i saw percy fall, edward was laying with grave wounds, the noises we heard..........surely he can not be alive still
Goonergeezer: the screams still ring in my ears mt lord
Smon: Ulrich brushes his bristling moustache. "We've paid a high price to rescue one peasant girl... Let their deaths not be in vain. I'll take half the Guard and get this thing. The old legends - they say burning oil for trolls, yes?"
Goonergeezer: Oil? would it be for oil that my comrades may oif lived?
Smon: Ulrich: "Fire - fire is the only thing that can kill them; burn them. We'll take torches and oil..."
Goonergeezer: Garrick: my lord with your leave i would return with ulrich and see this tragic event until its conclusion"
Smon: Ulrich. "No, Garrick - you look half dead with fatigue. Go see your wife. She needs you. I'll speak with Catherine."
Smon: George nods dumbly. "Ulrich - as Ulrich says. He knows best."
Goonergeezer: garrick nods at Ulrich the turns to George "with your leave my lord i will retire and see my bride"
Smon: Sir George sighs. Ulrich nods: "Aye, Garrick... go to your wedding-room and have the maids clean you. I'll send her to you shortly."
Goonergeezer: garrick turns and makes his way to his rooms
Smon: Garrick goes to the wedding-room, richly appointed for the wedding night. A page and two maids in Kallent livery enter shortly; the page helps him off with his steel armour, then the maids wash and dress him.
Smon: It's now about 2pm, and tiredness is setting in.
Smon: Once Garrick has been washed, a maid fetches Tabitha, now red-eyed and weeping. The servants withdraw.
Smon: Tabitha: "Garrick! Edward is dead! Oh no - say it is not so!"
Goonergeezer: seatinmg himself on a sofa garrick calls Tabitha over "my love i waish it were different but to say so will only make the fact harder to bear"
Smon: Tabitha moves over to sit with him.
Goonergeezer: Garrick "edward and percy both fought valiantly but the beast was too strong
Smon: "Edward, my brother. My rock... oh no..."
Smon: Tabitha places a hand on Garrick's. "It is so awful... and on my wedding-day..." she weeps.
Goonergeezer: garrick "angus his squire lies with grave wounds, there there my love i am your rock now"
Smon: Tabitha: "I am cold... hold me..."
Smon: Outside you hear the sounds of many men readying for battle in the courtyard below.
Goonergeezer: garrick holds tabitha close and softly soothes her
Smon: GM: Garrick soothes Tabitha. Sir Hawkes leads over a score of Kallent soldiery and various noblemen, including his sons, out towards Horsham Swamp.
Goonergeezer: garrick " my love your brother will be avenged befoer todays sun has set"
Smon: Tabitha nods. "Aye... he died a great hero I suppose, saving a fair maiden. As you once saved me, from those brigands..."
Goonergeezer: garrick strokes tabitha hair " if only your brother tale ended as happy as ours did"
Smon: Tabitha wipes away a tear: "The shock has caused Catherine to go into labour. Father Thadeus is with her, using his prayers to help her through the birth. Earl Byron was taken ill at the news also. I don't think... Mother says he may not live until tomorrow. Then my father will be the Earl."
Smon: "So much is happening, so fast... "
Smon: /roll 1d10
Smon rolls 1d10 and gets: 6,
Smon: /roll 1d6
Smon rolls 1d6 and gets: 4,
Goonergeezer: "how is helen fairing, i know that she and percy were close, yes my love all these are trying times"
Smon: Tabitha: "Helen is with Catherine, helping her sister-in-law. Helen never thinks of herself, she is so brave... Not like me."
Redkerrusk Has entered the room
Smon: Hi Red
Redkerrusk: hey guys
Redkerrusk: hows it going?
Smon: We're playing my Yggsburgh game, Gooner's PC has just got married & got his brother in law killed
Goonergeezer: (good thanks, u?)
Smon: He's now comforting his grieving bride
Smon: (killed by a swamp troll)
Redkerrusk: (ooh shoot...Im sorry to interrupt)
Smon: GM: Garrick comforts Tabitha long into the evening, the maids leaving food at your door.
Goonergeezer: "and how is your father faring? i have seen a loss of this magnitude take its toll on a man"
Smon: Tabitha: "Father is in shock. He blames himself for encouraging Edward to go. He thought it was just an Ogre..." Around midnight a weary and bedraggled band returns from the swamp.
Goonergeezer: Garrick "my love i must leave you now to see what has happened this day"
Smon: A servant knocks on the door, calls through it: "Begging your pardon, Sir Garrick! Sir Ulrich is returned, he wishes you to attend him in the Hall."
Goonergeezer: with that said garrick will go downstairs
Goonergeezer: garrick makes his way to the hall allowing himself a sly smile on the way
Smon: The noblemen are gathered,mud-spattered, in the Great Hall. Sir George is present, attended by Dame Gertrude his sister and Maria his youngest daughter, still looking grey. Ulrich is muddy and angry.
Goonergeezer: garrick walks into the hall but postions himself so that he is unobstructed by ulrich and co in case he needs to make a quick getaway
Smon: Ulrich: "Garrick! Good." He turns to Sir George: "Damn it, we could not find the Beast! We found the battle-scene at last, and much gore. But from there just tracks, going down to the river. Our tracker reckons it saw our torches and fled, swam the river most likely."
Goonergeezer: Garrick "Sir ulrich was there any sign of edward, i had hoped.............." and lets the sentence trail off
Smon: Dame Gertrude scowls: "It may be miles away, now - and my nephew unavenged. This is a disaster!"
Smon: Ulrich turns to Garrick. "Just blood, and scattered pieces of armour."
Smon: brb
Goonergeezer: garrick hangs his head and repeats "i had hoped........"
vondan Has entered the room
vondan: hey kids iz you chat'N or playzing
Redkerrusk Has exited the room
Goonergeezer: making coffee brb
Smon: sorry, took longer than expected
Smon: Hi vondan - playing, I'm GMing my Yggsburgh campaign
Goonergeezer: np, my kettles just boiling 2 secs
Smon: Ulrich: "We did recover Percy's sword; I'll see it's returned to his family."
Smon: Sir George: "It seems the White Lady of Kallent has abandoned us this day."
vondan: some you can advance the time 2000 years and play a super hero game in YggsCity
Goonergeezer: garrick "luck was not on our side" and shakes his head
Smon: Dame Gertrude sniffs. "The White Lady will not abandon the House of Kallent, George. Not while we remain faithful and virtuous. Only those who walk the path of Sin have cause to fear..." She casts a beady eye on Garrick.
Goonergeezer: garrick catches Gertrudes stare and looks down at the floor
Smon: Ulrich nods at Garrick's words. "Though for all I know we might have fared no better than you did."
Smon: Ulrich glances at his own two sons, perhaps grateful they still live.
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: 30,
Goonergeezer: Garrick turns to look at ulrich " do you make another attempt looking for the creature tomorrow my loed?"
Smon: /roll 1d100
Smon rolls 1d100 and gets: 12,
Smon: Ulrich: "Hm... If the troll has fled the swamp, as the tracker said, it seems pointless. But we could organise another sweep..." Father Thadeus enters the Hall.
Smon: Thadeus: "Gentlemen, I have good news on this sad day. Catherine is delivered of child, a son. It took many prayers to St Saranrae, but mother and child are both well."
Goonergeezer: Garrick "may the Lord be Praised"
Smon: Sir George brightens a little. Thadeus: "You have a grandson, my lord. Earl Byron asked to hold the child. A moment later, he... he is with his ancestors. You are the Earl of Kallent, my lord."
Smon: George shakes his head in disbelief. "My son, and now my uncle the Earl, both gone... and a grandson... He should be called Edward, after his father."
Goonergeezer: Garrick gets down on one knee and offers his sword to Sir george, my lord, i pledge my sword to you and house Kallent"
Smon: George looks down at Garrick, takes the hilt of the blade. "Your words are most gracious, brave knight. I have lost one son - and gained another." The meeting begins to break up. Ulrich beckons meaningfully to Garrick.
Goonergeezer: garrick " i hope to become the Son that you lost"
Smon: Dame Gertrude remains unimpressed, but Sir George is clearly happy at Garrick's pledge.
Goonergeezer: when a moment arises garrick makes his way over to Ulrich
Smon: Ulrich: "Let's talk in my room."
Goonergeezer: Garrick follows Ulrich to his chambers
Smon: Once alone in Ulrich's room, Sir Hawkes strokes his moustache and looks at Garrick. "So..."
Goonergeezer: garrick looks to ulrich with no expression on his face "my lord?"
Smon: Ulrich: "With Edward gone, the Kallent are short of men of leadership. George - Earl Kallent - you know he is an old friend of mine, from back in the Holy Land..."
Goonergeezer: garrick: Indeed sir, the house of kallent has lost dearly tis day, you must feel for your friend"
Smon: Ulrich nods. "I pray to the Lord I'll not outlive either of my sons - or Alicia, of course."
Goonergeezer: garrick: it is terrible for a man to outlive his sons"
Smon: Ulrich: "George is a good man - a brave man. And a loyal friend. But he is not... He has not faced the hardships men like you and me have overcome."
Goonergeezer: garrick : "it could drive a man to his death"
Smon: /roll 1d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 17,
Smon: lucky
Goonergeezer: garrick : indeed this could shatter the poor man"
Smon: Ulrich raises an eyebrow. "Oh, I'm sure he'll live. He's in good health."
Goonergeezer: garrick : and his continued health will be forever in my prayers"
Smon: /roll 1d20
Smon rolls 1d20 and gets: 10,
Smon: "Hmm... I shouldn't worry too much. Gertrude wouldn't let him get into any trouble."
Goonergeezer: "Dame gertrude sees much, and i will hazard that often her council is heeded in matters"
Smon: "Anyway, my point... George is - can be - a little unworldly. Often he defers to Dame Gertrude, as you say. A formidable woman..."
Goonergeezer: "behind every great man is a great woman, in some cases a great many women"
Smon: Ulrich chuckles. "Aye, well. His son, Edward, he was wise for his years; I felt he was a steadying influence. Without him, I fear George will have rather too much female... advice..."
OculusOrbus Has entered the room
Goonergeezer: i will endevour to keep my lord appraised with masculine advice sir"
Smon: Ulrich nods: "That was my thinking. I understand that Tabitha plans to return to Yggsburgh College for the autumn term, two weeks from now. But the death of her brother changes matters..."
Smon: "Perhaps it were better you both stay here, to support the Earl at this difficult time."
Goonergeezer: garrick strokes his beard in thought then turns to ulrich: your words make much sense sir Ulrich, i will reccomend that we shall stay here and help the earl grieve and to keep everything running as it should be
Smon: "Good." Ulrich yawns. "You're aware of the political situation, here in Kallent? Herdley to the south is powerful, and has a new Countess, young Varuna. She may have ambitions to add to her domain. The orc tribes in the eastern hills got a good pasting last year, they should be quiet for now. To the north, Redfort. Baron Lyle is ambitious too, but his domain is smaller than Herdley."
Goonergeezer: Garrick : indeed our enemies surround us, in time it will be good to know on who we can count on
Smon: "Father Thadeus knows much - you could do worse than consult with him. Otherwise Castle Kallent is short of wise men, I fear."
Goonergeezer: garrick : in all matters i will seek the council of father Thaddeus before making any decisions
Smon: "If you need assistance, remember Yggsburgh is just seventy-five miles away. The Markles are here for the wedding, Hector of course as President is on the Council, and a good friend - you may recall your band saved his daughter."
Smon: "Victoria. She's with them too." Ulrich yawns again.
Smon: OOC: Planning to stop soon, maybe we could discuss Garrick's plans a bit OOC first?
Goonergeezer: garrick : i do remember it well ulrich, it is good to kmow we have allies in Yggsburgh, and yggs in us, my lord you have had a long day and i should leave you to rest, i must be away to my bride
Goonergeezer: (yep ok
Smon: Ulrich nods: "Good night - I'll see you in the morning, before we depart."
Goonergeezer: on the morrow then sir" with that garrick departs to his bridal suite 24 hours late
Smon: OOC I can do next session Thursday. Is there anything Garrick has planned I should know about?
Redkerrusk Has entered the room
Goonergeezer: after what happened i plan on keeping things low profile just to see how things lie, although i want to do some research in the library on t"the white lady" and also to try to find out in texts and such what would happen if george passed, who would then take leadership
Goonergeezer: so nothing earthshaking
Smon: ok, thanks. I've updated the Kallent family tree here:http://smonsyggsburgh.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/nobles.html
Smon: Minus Earl Byron & Sir Edward, plus Sir Garrick and baby Edward.
Smon: Can you do 6pm Thursday?
OculusOrbus: Simon, are you using geomorphs?
Smon: I use the Arr-Kelaan Hexmapper
Smon: Haven't used geomorphs; no.
Goonergeezer: not sure at the moment, i will send you a pm tomorrow and let you know
Smon: ok thx
Smon: I'll post log.
OculusOrbus: I've only heard of Hexmapper
Smon: Arr-Kelaan is only available via a mailing list these days. Pity, it's brilliant.

  1. Hiya smon, i have a few questions and a couple of ideas i want to run past Father Thadeus, some of these need to be done before any funerals take place, i will be on thursdy but not sure how long i can stay, i will write all my questions here but am up for roleplaying them if you want.

1: Why do the Kallents distrust the Herdly family, is it just because of their decadence?

2: How many men can Kallent and Grane put in the field?

3: why are redfort and Talworth enemies?

4: what is the relationship between Sir Alec of Gaxhill and The Kallents?

5: is it possible to get the Crown prince Luke Ergane to visit for the funeral, i want him to meet with both Lady Helen and Maria with a view to marriage and to strengthen our ties with them , thus giving house Kallent more allies and power.
