Precedence in the Realm of Man
Precedence runs roughly as follows:
(1) Independent Noble Rulers:
Outside their estates they rank
King,
Margrave
Count/Earl,
Baron
Lord Mayor (eg of Yggsburgh)
But within their estates they are all effectively 'monarchs' and co-equal.
(2) Foreign nobility - Easterling Kings, Norsemen Jarls etc
(3) Vassal Nobility, usually Barons
(4) Children and spouses of the above, who are entitled to the title Lord or Lady.
(5) Landed Knights
(6) Untitled Immediate Relatives of Nobles
(7) Landless Knights
(8) Relatives of Landed Knights
(9) Commoners - Property Owning
(10) Commoners - Landless
(11) Serfs
(12) Slaves
Descent of Title
In the Realm, Noble Title normally passes to the most direct male heir (son, grandson etc), although title can be disinherited via Deed Poll. If there is no direct male heir, title passes to the most direct female heir (daughter, grand-daughter etc). If there is no direct female heir, title passes male sibling, female sibling; then uncle, aunt; then male first cousin, female first cousin, and on. Difficult cases occasionally result in disputed title and even civil war.
